For two years, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers bit his lip, said the right things and accepted his role in the shadows as he waited for his turn to be the Bolts' starting signal caller."  As the team took the field Monday morning for the first of its 2006 Offseason Coaching Sessions, Rivers did so with an extra pep in his step, a beaming confidence in his voice and his chest pumped out a little further.

"I felt like myself out there today," Rivers said."  "I've said time and time again how grateful I am for everything I learned while waiting behind Drew (Brees) and I mean that."  I felt like a part of me was missing a little bit through that."  I had to take a little bit of a back seat in certain areas, and rightfully so."  Now it's time for me to step up and take control."  That's what I've always been used to."</blockquote>
