By Tom Shanahan

During training camp drills, they're often lined up one in front of the other – No. 54, Stephen Cooper, followed by No. 57, Matt Wilhelm. They take turns as Chargers linebackers running through footwork and technique drills.

And now, when the first unit defense is on the practice field for scrimmage situations at Chargers Park, they're positioned side by side awaiting the snap as starting inside linebackers in the 3-4 defensive scheme.

When the second or third units takes the field, Cooper and Wilhelm stand together on the sidelines usually near defensive coordinator Wade Phillips or linebackers coach Greg Manusky.
