The Chargers have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds?

    18th pick in each round because of where we finished;
30th pick in the second from the Jests
    and
25th pick in the third from the Seahawks.

    Is this accurate?

I think that is correct but I have read that the Jets pick can be lower if the continue to win.

As of right now we pick at 18, 50, 62 (from the Jets, could change if they keep winning), 82, & 89 (from Seahawks). Other than that we have a 6th. Not sure what we may get via comp picks.

That should be enough to get us replacements. Though I wonder if there will be a draft if there is no CBA....

    They have

    18th pick 1st round
    18th Second Round
30th Second Round (from Jets and it depends on where Jets finish)
    18th pick 3rd round
    25th pick 3rd round (Seahawks)
    and a 6th rounder

The draft exists independent of a collective bargaining agreement between the NFLPA and the NFL (owners). The caveat is that no new contracts can be signed if there is no CBA in place - which there effectively wouldn't be if there was a lockout; no lockout and they would just continue forward operating under the most recently agreed upon CBA that wasn't opted out of - i.e. the same CBA and rules the 2010 season operated under.

So, we could "draft" players and own the rights to them (for one calendar year) but we wouldn't be able to actually sign them to contracts to play for us unless a collective bargaining agreement (as the players would have to join the union/NFLPA in order to become players in the league) was in place in some capacity.

Correct, that is my point, bettre worded. We cant sign pick, so why would they not go play for the USF or do something else. IF we go a full season without signing them, we lose the rights, correct?

interesting point . I wonder if the owners would postpone the draft if nothing is in place. the plot thickens for sure

That is what I was wondering. Especially since both sides have been preparing for no 2011 for what, 5 years now?

Lets hope the CBA is done prior to March so we dont have to worry about it.

I doubt it. I think both side would have to assume a new CBA will be in place before a full calendar year is over with. Even if there isn't a 2011 season at all, they will likly have a new CBA in place before 2012, which would give them the ability to sign their players before the 2012 draft

Actually, there are reports that several owners are saying if the CBA expires they wont go back to it. I guess that would mean starting over for them.

Rich folk only focusing on getting richer.... On both sides.

Good luck having a league without a union and as long as their is a union, their has to be a CBA.

Not with my money, they can go pound sand for all I care. No NFL in 2011, I am gone forever.
