I finally get a chance to say Yee Haw!
This sends a message to the D players too. Get the job done or else. Give me the D that showed up when we played New England and we will win out.

If anyone missed Rivera's press conference, it's on the front page of Chargers.com right now.

Like I said before, I don't think this decision was unanimous. Norval was the prime mover. I suspect this decision was Deans's.

I doubt that personal issues played that much of a role in business as cut throat as the NFL. Dropping him mid season would not be an easy choice. It was Norval's *** on the line, so he probably made the push. AJ might not have made this move if not pushed and I suspect it was Dean who finally decided.

Thanks you for posting this link!

I think this is great news. I'm pumped about the possiblities of turning our season around. I think the offense is playing very well. turning the "D" around, even part of the way, will be a big gain for the team. My humble opinion, within two games, our "D" WILL BE BACK!

Norv is the offensive guru. So far, the offense is firing on all cylinders and Rivers has morphed into an elite QB. We are where we are because of the defensive lapses. Not stopping people because stupid penalties, poor tackling, blown assignments and lack of consistent aggression have been our problems. If Rivera reverses this, then Norv will have to be secure, because if he does, we will take the division away from Denver. I like our offense and that is Norval's baby.

Wonder where Cottrell will go now? Aside from crawling back under that rock he came out of?

Do you think he is now officially banned from the city of San Diego?

Dead on, birthday boy! This is exactly what went down. And the plan doesn't stop there. Who do you think is next if the team misses the playoffs and the D improves as expected? Hell, maybe we make the playoffs and go out early... Norv will be gone and the former Cal Bear will be in charge.

    More specifically...
Ted lost the players. It took a while for him and Merriman to get along, so I expect that many of his players had issues with him. What else could explain such a horrible decline in effectiveness? Injuries? Perhaps. But mostly these guys look like quitters at times. Horrible fundamentals and constantly out of position, too. As a player, when you think the guy next to you is not going to take care of his job, you tend to try to make up for it.... and end up blowing plays.

I think Rivera will eliminate that worry among the players. They'll only take care of their own job and that will lead to good things.

    I HOPE.

Happy B-Day Savage Lizard and solid post!

The offense is in good hands.

The D is now in better hands as I don't think it can get any worse then what we were watching.

    28th Total Def
    32 vs the Pass

When Merriman was lost for the season the D lost its heart and emotion. I am hoping Rivera can bring some of that back.

    Well i'm almost 22.

    Youngin' haha

wait till ur 21. then u can go to PB for the wild college chicks and downtown for some fine older ladies... which would be mid 20s for me ha.

    No more TJ.

Oh and we really can't tell how bad Cotrell's hiring was until we see how improved the D can be. Will they force turnovers like crazy a la Rivera's old Bear D's (at the expense of the occasional big play)? Or was Cotrell just a scapegoat for an overrated D?

Im believing the first one more.

    Holy crap!!!!

I've said the same thing during my "duties" as the adoptee and folks around here jump all over me saying how "it's the way he is playing the players". Now folks are agreeing with your comment.

Cotrell is like a succubus. It takes time for them to completely suck the life-force out of you.

I heard that AJ was talking behind Dean's back about Ted. Then, at Norv's pool party, Dean's BFF heard that Dean's girlfriend was angry because AJ was bragging about how much he liked Ted. As you can imagine, that didn't sit to well with Dean OR Ted. So Dean had his BFF call AJ and ask what his problem was. But instead of calling him he had his best friend Kiki, the transexual Syrian limo driver from Tampa, order three dozen pizza's and deliver them to AJ's house under the assumed name "Dr. General Manager Mongoloid Esquire"...

UGH!!!! This is HARD!!!! How do you keep it up???
