...Snipped from Nick Canepa's article below. Reading down to the comments about Tom Brady shocked me. We actually could have drafted Tom Brady although who knows where in the draft Mike Riley was suggesting. Never liked Mike Riley as a coach but I sure wish the supposed smartest man in football (according to S.I.) had listened to him on this matter. Even if he hadn't panned out in our system..at least the Puktriots wouldn't have him.

<<<Accomplishments are wonderful, but to borrow from Rick Blaine, when you go to get in the all-time line, the Pats don't amount to a hill of beans in this world.

Right now, you have to lay off the Patriots, because they haven't won anything. They still have a game to play, and the team they're up against went nose-to-nose with them not long ago. No, the world should hold on New England, but it really doesn't matter to me if they win or lose, because they're not the best team ever.

Look at these Patriots. They are a product of their coach, Bill Belichick, and quarterback Tom Brady, who they lucked into in the sixth round of the 2000 draft (when Chargers coach Mike Riley begged GM Bobby Beathard to take Brady, and Beathard refused).

Just how many Hall of Famers do you think these Patriots have on their roster? Belichick and Brady for sure, linebacker Junior Seau, for his accomplishments in San Diego. Safety Rodney Harrison, another former Charger, is a definite long shot. >>>

Outstanding job to all for making a new member feel welcome.

I for one found it interesting. I didn't know that Riley had Brady on his radar back then.

I have a pet peeve in regards to crying over spilled milk, especially when it's a topic that's been covered ad neusum. :(

Thanks. I liked reading about the Riley input. He took a lot of **** as the coach of the chargers, but it looks like he had an eye for a QB. That "hip-hip hooray" **** was lame.

Bethard on the other hand was already in a downward spiral at that point anyway. He screwed us for years with his **** drafting 2nd round scrubs for next years 1st.

In 2000 Round 6 we took Shannon Taylor (LB) 2 picks before Adalius Thomas(LB) and Brady went 13 picks later.

There was a discussion on Sirius a week ago, with the usual Brady/Pats knobber slobberers talking about how brilliant Belicheater was for picking Brady in the sixth round.

Then someone mentioned how Belicheater had to get talked INTO drafting Brady, because he liked some other QB scrub more. I forget which one they mentioned, but someone that's a current backup.

Brady was pure luck for the Pats. Anyone that says anything different is talking out their ***.

Speaking of Tom Brady, here's my condensed version of one segment from Junior Seau's interview with Howard Stern on Sirius today:

Howard: "Hey Junior, what's your real name?"
Junior: "If I tell you you'll probably laugh"
    H: "Naw, come on..."
    J: "It's Tee'na"
    H: "Tina??"
J: "See I knew you guys would say it that way, that's why I have everyone call me Junior"
Artie Lange: "Hey Tina... How big is Tom Brady's ****?"

...Okay, I surrender:lol: I had never seen that report before about Riley being high on Brady. Wasn't really crying over spilt milk just found the article interesting. In keeping with the Michael Jordan thought...Green bay could have had Barry Sanders instead of Madarich:abq2:

Thanks to the gent who defended me though and thanks for the welcome ...wrbanwal.

Probably the reason why Beathard didn't pick Brady was because he had his sites set on a "can't miss" prospect from Palomar Jr. College....or North Dakota Technical A&M Boys School.... or some such nonsense.

I'd like to make a new Law of the Bolttalk Forums

From here on in, no one is allowed to re-hash that we could have drafted Tom Brady because discussing this serves no purpose and just pisses everyone off. Also because no one could have foreseen this happening much like no one could've foreseen that Antonio Gates would be this good.
