NFL's best corner: Was there anyone better than Deion?

    #2 playing today:
    Antonio Cromrtie
About him: Despite an injury-plagued career at Florida State — Cromartie only started one game there — the Chargers drafted him in the first round in 2006. Cromartie rewarded them last year, budding into an all-pro. In his first career start last November, he intercepted Colts quarterback Peyton Manning three times in front of a national audience.

Notable stats: Led the NFL with 10 interceptions in 2007 even though he wasn't promoted to the starting unit until San Diego's ninth game. He also crafted the longest play in league history last season, returning a missed FG 109 yards for a TD in Minnesota.

LB rankings: Original L.T. set new standard for position

    #1 playing today
    Shawne Merriman
About him: Merriman has been a pass-rushing force since entering the league, earning Pro Bowl honors in each of his three seasons. His 39.5 sacks over that span are unparalleled, and he led the league with 17 QB takedowns in 2006 despite missing four games for violating the league's steroids policy. At 6-4, 272 pounds he possesses a rare size-speed combination that makes him unique at his position.

Notable stats: The Chargers drafted Merriman with a first-round pick they acquired from the Giants when the teams swapped the rights of QBs Eli Manning and Philip Rivers on draft day in 2004. San Diego has 149 sacks since obtaining Merriman; the Giants have 126 over the same period.

Just think of how much better that trade will look for us when Philip leads us to a ring, and Nate kicks 9 more FGs and takes over for Mike Vanderjadgt as the most accurrate kicker in the history of the NFL! (especially when Eli returns to Earth and the Giants miss the playoffs altogether )
