    Cromartie Punt return ?

Not going to happen ,the top 3 CB all look pretty good at this point Jammer ,Florence ,Cromartie but after them the Chargers are very thin.

The comment was made that the chance for injury was no greater on kick or punt returns vs playing CB during the last pod cast.

Well I disagree the chances for injury are far greater ,that's is why is why you call them suicide squads. 11 men running full speed 40 plus yards and launching themselves can and does result in some pretty bad injuries.

Now you can get hurt on any given play but you won't see key skill players like LT or any of the starting CB on this squad returning kicks.

Turner most likely or one of the reserve CB perhaps will take over those duties.

Deion Sanders returned kicks very early in his career before being protected from ST kick return duties.

Whoever said that bolded line has never returned a punt or kickoff - at any level.

That's true. The chance for injury on ST is much greater than "normal" play.

If one were to review all the kickoffs and punt returns, the times where some player gets injured on the ST play happens much more than in the rest of the game.

Merriman injured his knee in preseason last year on ST, in Minnesota, and wound up missing preseason game 4, and our season opener versus the Cowgirls.

He didn't return until Week 2 versus the Broncos. Even then, he really wasn't effective until a few weeks after that.

We run a lot of starters on ST play but when you talk about return man now that is another story.

In that case, shouldn't our best player be the return man?

    That means L.T. right?

Does that make sense to you?

Regarding "stars" on special teams ....

There is a place for it - but NOT during the majority of the regular season, only during MUST win games towards the end of the year or postseason games.

Coryell used Wes Chandler as a punt returner in the post season. That's a good time for Cro, or even LT to put a scare into opponents.

Week 1 or 5 or 11 is still the time for the Sproles, Cletis Gordons, or Wes Welkers of the NFL.

Well, you said that tons of games are decided by special teams. In that case, you'd want your best runner returning kicks right?

I don't doubt special teams are very important.

However, I don't want any player that will be in for at least 50% of the snaps, either offensively or defensively, doing returns. PERIOD.

REturn men should be your #3 RB, #4 WR, or #4 CB.

Sproles didn't get hurt at Kansas State either.

What happens if Gold Toes gets injured in the 'Aints first game in Cleveland, similar to Sproles? That's a lot of cap money and potential offensive yards from scrimmage down the drain.

Sproles injury was typical of what can happen on special teams, a guy falls on his lower leg while his upper body is getting contorted in the other direction from the impact of the tackle.

He's our #2 WR right now. Even if he falls to #3, I still wouldn't want him doing it.

I'd rather give it to someone else.

I don't know. Maybe I'm a little old school, but I want one of my best open field runners to return kicks. The battle of field positon is important, and I don't want a bunch of fair catches or 3 yard returns.

Wes Chandler, Gary Anderson, James Brooks, Darrien Gordon (who was a starter), all returned kicks for us, and none of them got hurt doing so. So I don't see why today's athelete can't do dual duties.

WR Gerran Walker (who? That 'scrub' we picked up after letting Rashaun Woods go)
    RB Ray Perkins
    DB Cletis Gordon

Those are my choices of people to try out returning kicks and punts.

Gordon only returned punts, not kickoffs. And when he did finally try it later on in his career, he sucked at kickoffs.

I would venture a guess and say that if Darrien had returned kicks for us as well, he wouldn't be one of our starting DBs thoughout the season.

He'd wind up clobbered and missing 2-4 games.

People are going to be mad at me for sure this time.:icon_mad:

The San Diego Chargers will find who the Return Specialist is via Waiver wire, Trade, within our own ranks even through the pink Elephant it does not matter we will be able to do what is best for the Chargers for our KR/PR specialist.

I do not know who is going to be and I do not have a clue.:icon_shrug:

I do know that we are worried but it is ok to be and it will get done with either Marty or AJ.

    Let us see things clearly.

    Thank you.:)

Let's all get together, kick you the football, and have you try to return it, as we all try to tackle you.

We'll see if you gut it out, or end up crying like a puzzy. :icon_twisted:

Was Dante Hall the 2nd overall pick in the draft?

Dante Hall is a crap WR. He's a return specialist. You're making our point for us.
