After praising the tempo and effort of his players following their morning session, Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer wasn't thrilled with what he saw in Saturday afternoon's practice.

"The work this afternoon didn't meet the standard that was set this morning," Schottenheimer said. "I'm not sure why. The most important thing with me is that you never start a trend of being less efficient than you're capable of being. We'll make sure to pick things up tomorrow."

Approximately 2,000 fans attended morning drills, and a majority of Bolts supporters made it back out for the second session. The late practice saw the first scuffle of training camp when linebacker Shaun Phillips and offensive lineman Bob Hallen got locked up late in the afternoon.

The defense shined during team drills as cornerback Drayton Florence intercepted quarterback Drew Brees and linebacker Donnie Edwards picked off a pass from quarterback Philip Rivers. Offensively, wide receiver Eric Parker drew a resounding applause when he made a diving catch to go with his diving touchdown grab from the morning, and tight end Landon Trusty made several receptions during the afternoon workout.

Defensive tackle Jamal Williams (ankle), defensive end David Ball (shoulder, back, foot), linebacker Ben Leber (foot), wide receiver Reche Caldwell (hamstring), wide receiver Malcom Floyd (calf), tight end Ryan Krause (foot), offensive tackle Courtney VanBuren (knee), and defensive end Adell Duckett (knee) all sat out of the late practice due to injury. Offensive Roman Oben and lineman Randall Godfrey were rested during late drills. Williams, Ball, and Leber are all recovering from injuries, so coaches are monitoring their time.

Duckett suffered an MCL strain and could miss the next few weeks. Krause suffered a sprain in his foot and was in a protective boot Saturday, and Floyd suffered a calf strain.

The Chargers will take a break from their two-a-day routine and practice just once on Sunday. Fans are invited to attend the 2:30 p.m. workout.
