Although not a season ticket holder, I wrote Deano expressing my displeasure and my commitment to not attend any home games or buy any merchandise.

Response letter dated January 10. 2012:
"Thank you for taking the time to write and express your thoughts. I'm sorry you disagree with our direction for the future. I know there is nothing I can say to change your opinion. We know we have to win to earn your support again, and that's our plan. Only time will tell.

I hope to hear from you again after we find ourselves in the playoffs and you're once again excited to be a Chargers fan.
    Again, thank you for writing."

    Sincerely,
    (blue ink signature)

    dear deano,
If you actually expect people to put down a $1000 a person to watch another norv turner lead team stumble its way to a losing record for the first 12 weeks of the season just to go all out for last 4 weeks and narrowly miss the playoffs, then you're a bigger idiot than i thought.

You had a chance to save the respect of the fans and actually get some new season ticket holders, but went the cheap and cowardly way, and kept the biggest cancer to infect this team since Ryan Leaf.

Have fun watching the games in an empty stadium all season

    Sincerely
Every Season Ticket Holder with a Brain

Only way i would renew my season tickets this year is if they gave them to fo 75% off, which to me is fair since its obvious the team seems to only take the games seriously the final 4 weeks of the season

Why not talk about the stadium! This is an issue. As someone who has been a season ticket holder since 1985, we as San Diegans are proud of our city and the ability to tailgate. Why isn't this addressed in the new stadium? Downtown will not allow for this type of an event. Tailgating+Chargers=San Diego.

    Mr. Spanos,
Some spots for tailgating downtown...what 10 and cost $100s.
Dumb answer to a smart question by a season ticketholder.

I decided to take down most of the conference call during my lunch hour. Figured someone would get some value out of it. Its no where near word for word, but it gets the points across.

Our arrow has been pointed down.

-Drafting in 7, 8 and 9 has not been good enough.

-Instead of across the board changes, staying with this regimen gives us the best chance of winning.

-Important to me was the respect of the players and how hard they played over the last 4-5 games.

-Relationship with Phil was a major factor.

-Need to fill voids, going take a hard look at being more aggressive in free agency.

    Questions:
How strongly do you feel about a stadium being built in SD?
We've been working on this for ten years. Committed as ever. Difficult, long and tedious process. Cooperative government now. We think East Village is best site. Need to come up with a financing plan. Committed to get things done.

What are you going to do to educate the public on the benefits of keeping the Chargers and the perils of losing a franchise?
My family loves it here and I love it here, so we don't want to leave. Its easy to say "Look at Petco" and see what it has done for downtown. It has to make economic sense, but going forward the new stadium, super bowls and other events have huge benefits.

Draft Question: Are we going offense or defense? What are we going to draft?
After super bowl, we will analyze what's available. The left side of our o-line is important because we don't have certainty there. Also need an outside pass rusher and a safety. This is without talking with AJ or Norv.

Concerned about Vincent Jackson and losing him to FA.
We want to have a player like VJ, but it takes two parties to come together. When we meet after the super bowl, we will discuss the values of players, etc.

AJ is not the warmest and fuzziest person on earth. What is going to change with him in the upcoming year?
Lets step back, in the beginning years he was here he did an incredible job building the team to where it was 3 years ago. I think we are going to take a different approach to the draft in who we are going to take and make changes to how we are going to look at FAs. Changes in personnel selection and change our approach.

Where do you feel the team has fallen short the past 2-3 years?
I think it’s a combination of things, but first and foremost player personnel. Poor drafts in 7 8 and 9 have caused our current roster. I think good drafts in 10 and 11 were good and we should see that pan out. Needs to be improvement on coaching and a new DC. Also think injuries have been too many and hurt us. Bad luck.

Ryan Mathews: Ranked 16th in rushing as a team. What can we do to avert his injuries or back him up?
I think the o-line injuries hurt us badly in rushing. RM had a tough time following LT with high expectations. He's done a good job, needs to get better, will get better. Tolbert is a different dynamic but a great player and combo with RM.

What is going to make us keep going and spending money on the team with increases in concessions?
Season ticket prices will NOT go up this year. Prices have been flat for 5 years. Actually lowered prices on 6k tickets last year. We need to get back to the playoffs and make it more exciting to earn your business.

Seems like we've taken a step backward on defense, how do we get back where we were?
I believe in this year's draft and in FA we need a big time pass rusher OLB. Merriman dynamic and a great safety and we are zeroing in on those positions. I think we have a good front 3 and good CBs. I think we have good team chemistry and the relations ship with the coaching staff. Team has no quit in it. Detroit was a terrible game for us, no excuses.

Dean, can express the mis-conceptions about AJ?
AJ has a perspective about what his job should be and he is very black and white, no shades of grey. He rubs people wrong because of that. There is no "BS-ing' around with him. He isn't out to make friends, but he can improve his personality and interactions. He has been successful again even though he has missed on a couple of drafts.
Dean, can express the mis-conceptions about Norv?
That he isn't a motivator. I've watched him during practice and if you ask any player about Norv's motivation and they say he does a good job. Unfortunately people look at his post-game interview and judge him accordingly. I know what he does in the locker room and he does a good job.

Current stadium site is liked by many people and we don't want it to move because we want to tailgate. Why not put the new stadium on same site?
Renovating the old stadium isn't worth it. We worked on building on the same site, but the city turned us down. The political support wasn't there. That is how we ended up downtown. With the economy, there is no way to get it done at Qualcomm site. Will still be tailgate space, but not as much.

Dean: I want to win as bad as you do. My family is committed to getting us to the Super Bowl.

    When is River's contact up?
    2015

Not enough protection for Phil and holes for the runners.
We will discuss all options after the super bowl. We will take best available to fill a need, so a left tackle may be an early pick.

How has San Diego affected your family?
It has brought together our family more then you could imagine. Everyone comes out on game day and brings us all together. We feel very fortunate to be in this position.

You have been labeled as 'Thrifty'. Are we going to keep VJ? I'm bitter about lost players over the years.
We've always been spending the maximum and in the top 10 teams of spending cash. I want you to know I am committed to getting us back to where we need to go. More proactive in FA, don't know how until we meet but opportunities will be there.

Will we get a county wide vote on the new stadium?
Yes, we expect to get the whole county to have a say.

If you start 0-3 what will you do?
I don't know, jump off the top of Qualcomm. I just don't know what we would do, but I would focus on how we end up, that's what counts. I would not be happy about it.

Question about our strength and conditioning program, will it be addressed along with our team doctor?
We have looked and will continue to look. I asked why we were having so many injuries. I talked to the team doctor and asked if it had anything to do with strength and conditioning. Most injuries were not related to S&C. Are we talking to many chances with a history of injury? We need to address that and ensure that goes into their rating during draft. We haven't come to a conclusion, but we are looking at everything we can.

For you, it has to be challenging as an owner, how do you balance when you get involved and when you let your football guys handle things?
I will be more involved this year than ever. The first person you hire is your GM. He handles your team and helps you hire a head coach. When you reach a point when things don't go exactly right, I have stepped in a few times but not a lot. Let your people do their job and if they can't do it then you make a change.

Do you expect Turner to play a bigger role in player personnel this year?
He plays a role, go through every player we have and evaluate. Tremendous input from Norv during that eval. That being said he makes up the roster from the 80 players we have an who we play on game day. AJ can't be picking players Norv won't play, so they have to interact.

Why wait until after the SB to sign any players?
If we sign a marquee player now, it might affect other players we want. WE have to be smart and have enough money to get enough good players. We don't have to rush, we want to make sure we do the right thing. We will contact his agent during our evaluation period.

Weighing wether we should keep our season tickets, what is your message of why there is hope?
Net bottom line is we have ot go out and wind. I have a lot of confidence in my decision and we will find out if its right or wrong. We are committed to winning, we are trying to make athe right decsions, we have a good core of players and good foundation to go forward.

Thanks to everyone, I hope you all renew your tickets, we can't win without you.

Once again proving that the the chargers dont care about the first 75% of the season and think that as long as they try hard the final month of the season, everything will be ok, pathetic

Many thanks Skuzzie... This is a bit enlightening, on the half full side it shows that Dean is trying to do the right thing and keep his fan base informed, on the other side he is trying to save his sales and pimp the product (which is expected)...

I dont know about the rest of you, but for me AJ is the bigger problem than Norv. AJ had two of the best drafts I have ever seen when he took Ecry Manning and fleeced the Giants to get Rivers, then the season after. Since then he has had flashes but not produced quality starter material at levels we need to maintain out top line competitive edge (Mathews I think is his lone shining pick since). Where AJ excells is getting quality depth via the draft, but we need more than depth now. It is good that Dean pblicly is letting AJ know he is on call to step up his game (or step out of the way), as I read it.
I actually agree. The O is working, dont mess with it. The D was terrible, just as SF's D was under manusky. Make the change, get us some LB and beef and lets take another run at this before lighting the fuse to the TNT.
I cant stress how much I agree with this. I have not seen players come out and support coaches like this team has (not saying it hasnt happned, I havent seen it). That says something to me. Players want to say it was theri fault, fine, step up and win next year.
Absativley! He is the key factor to getting us where we want to go. We dont want him taking a 'Sproles last 2 seasons in SD' approach to things. Not that he would.
AJ's biggest fault is fear of free agency. His big splash was 'name' players like Bob Sanders and Takeo Spikes... Ahh thanks AJ... Really...
Read: "We have tried for 10 years and the message is clear, SD does not want the Chargers here."

Seriously? Hey Dean, can you tell the rest of the league how to block and frustrate you? Denver, KC and Oakland would really appreciate any incite to how the Chargers are going to approach the draft... mmmkay?
Not so worried about VJ. Good player, but not sure his head is in SD.
In other words... Bill Johnson is the PR guy, I dont care if AJ wears razor blade suits so long as he talks to the coaches and gets us the players we need to win...
    AJ, you taking notes?
RM is doing a good job.
Give him a shot of liquid viagra before the press conference so he can have the 'Bob' smile? AJ is on notice, and Norv is misunderstood. Ok...
    Humor... Ar.. Ar..
A very good question we have talked about here quite often. Good to see after three or four years of injury derailed season they are starting to factor that into the draft. Oh AJ, factor that into FA as well! (cough... *Sanders* cough)
He will hold AJs hand... For good or bad, he has had to take on a Jones-Davis role... Lets see what happens...

he was asked what would he do if they started 0-3, what would you want him to say "I'll fire both!" ? he can't say that even if it were true
