Hey, can anyone help me out and let me know what Deion Sanders' and Champ Bailey's 40 times were. I think that would be very useful information right about now.

I heard on NFL Network during one of the combine drills that Deion's time was 4.19. Of course this is totally undocumented and unofficial as fas as I'm concerned.

Deion will be 40 on August 9th of this year.

    Champ won't turn 40 until 2018.

SDC, this article says they both ran a 4.28. It's also got a list of some other guys with top flight 40 times. Hope this helps! :icon_toast:

Notice how many of the players on that list didn't or haven't amounted to a hill of beans in the NFL?

I didn't say none of the players amount to anything. But there's a lot of them that didn't or haven't.

To me, forty-times are hugely overrated. If they're so important why do so many guys at the upper echelon fail to live up to expectations?

    4.24 - Rondel Menendez, (WR), Eastern Kentucky - 1999
    4.28 - Jerome Mathis, (WR), Hampton - 2005
    4.29 - Stanford Routt, (CB), Houston - 2005
    4.29 - Jay Hinton, (RB), Morgan State - 1999
    4.31 - Aaron Lockett, (WR), Kansas State - 2002
    4.32 - *Troy Williamson, (WR), South Carolina - 2005
    4.32 - Chris McKenzie, (CB), Arizona State - 2005
    4.32 - Tim Carter, (WR), Auburn - 2002
    4.32 - Kevin Garrett, (CB), Southern Methodist - 2003
    4.32 - Antwan Harris, (CB), Virginia - 2000
    4.33 - Carlos Francis, (WR), Texas Tech - 2004
    4.33 - Karsten Bailey, (WR), Auburn - 1999
    4.34 - *Ahmad Carroll, (CB), Arkansas - 2004
4.34 - Tyrone Calico, (WR), Middle Tennessee State - 2003
    4.34 - Kevin Brooks, (CB), South Carolina - 1999

These are all guys I'd say haven't exactly set the league on fire despite their tremendous speed. That's 15 out of the 25 guys on the list, and I took off all the 2006 draft picks because it's not fair to judge them this early. But none of the 2006 draft picks (there were 4 on the list) did anything particularly special in his first season. So out of the 25 guys, only 6 have really proven to be special. That's less than 25%. So should people maybe re-think the importance of track-speed in the NFL?

leisure is the perfect example of someone who starts feeling crotch-movement when he hears a 40-time under 4.4 seconds.

Why do so many people here get off on picking on leisure? :icon_shrug:

At least he never recommended Art Shell take over as our new head coach.

very informative stuff, but most of these guys werent really stars in school. ive never heard of half of these guys, but other recent players like vick, andre johnson, fabian washington, deangelo hall all were known for their straight line speed and to me theyve done well considering the expectations.

Indeed, tis true. But I later recanted the statement. And in my own defense, idiocy is not a crime (thank god).
