The players' loyalties were split between coaches Brian Stewart and Albert Lewis, who often disagreed, both in approach and over who they thought should play. Jerry Wilson, the incumbent free safety, was replaced by Jue, a free-agent acquisition, even after it was roundly agreed Wilson had performed better in training camp. Many players (and Lewis) thought that was wrong.</blockquote>
