Chargers not resistant to trading WR Parker

With a wealth of talent at wide receiver, word out of San Diego is that the Chargers will be willing to entertain trade offers for WR Eric Parker. With Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers entrenched as starters, and promising second-year pro Craig “Buster” Davis expected to be the No. 3 target, the once go-to guy in the Bolts’ WR corps is deemed expendable. Parker accumulated 187 receptions for 2,586 yards and 11 touchdowns in the first five years of his six-year career in San Diego, before missing all of last season with a broken toe. But because of his toe complications and the prevailing thought that he’s an undersized (6-0, 180 pounds) possession receiver, unloading him will prove difficult. If unable to attract a decent offer for him, Parker is unlikely to be cut. He’s still a reliable target in the underneath zones, and the Chargers have more than enough salary-cap space to accommodate him.

Maybe work him in as part of a trade for Newberry? :icon_shrug:

Not saying that I advocate it, just wondering if it would be a possibility. I'm seeing/hearing more rumors about our interest in him.

Sending Parker to to hell (i.e. Oakland) would be a crummy thing to do to a player, IMO.

Newberry is a FA. Can't trade a FA. The rumor is that we are waiting until after June 1st to sign Newberry.

Parker would fetch no better than a 4th rounder. His 1.9-td-per-year average just just doesn't bring enough shine to the trading table.

I do like EP a lot. Met him in person and he's a great guy. I'm a big fan of his knowing the struggle it took to get to this level. However he does get injured a lot and I don't remember too many seasons where he was healthy the entire season except for 2006. He may just get squeezed out of a numbers game unfortunately but another team will scoop him up quickly. Many of you just remember him choaking against the Cheats in the playoff game, but if if it wasn't for some of his crucial 3rd down conversions during that season, we never may have got to that game. He's given his all to us, but I think due to injuries, a numbers game and a wealth of talent we have now at the WR position, he may be let go unfortunately. I really like EP a lot, but it's a business.

    Here's to you EP!

We might, might be able to pull in a sixth or seventh rounder for him. Maybe to Baltimore and Cam or something. Most likely he'll just be cut if he doesn't make the squad. It's hard to get anything for a possession receiver who's never scored a lot of touchdowns and missed the entire previous season due to injury.

I like Parker, too Don't chase him out of town, he could be
necessary with one or two WR out by injuries. Let's try the
training field competition. If he's got the No. 5 package, it's done.

Yep, I agree. I think that he's worth more on the team than we could get in a trade.

Parker's value is high to few outside of Chargerland. unless AJ could engineer some amazing deal I think that he should stay. Guy is as reliable (in regular season games) as they get.

Except when it comes to staying healthy.

Don't get me wrong, except for that 1 very important game, Parker has been great for us. But the guy can't stay off the injury report.

I'd love to have Parker back. He's shown 1000 times more heart than Davis and he's ussually clutch when it matters (except for that one Pats game). I'd have no problem with Parker being in our starting lineup and personally, I think he'll make the team and not be traded. However, if he does get cut or traded, it's because of the numbers. We've just got too many talented receivers on the team right now. Chambers & Jackson are the obvious #1 & #2. The Chargers want to give Buster a chance to prove he's not a bust, so he's not going anywhere. Legoland can play WR or TE. Osgood will stay for special teams. I still think we keep Parker, but if he goes it's just because of the numbers, not because he can't play. He's shown this Charger fan that he can.

Parker has had 6 years with mostly crap recievers (Keenan being the exception). Davis has had 1 with a pair of good ones (VJ and CC). Hard to compare them Thump.

I don't see how SD can trade Parker until after he's shown he's healthy. I thought that mini-camp might be a showcase for him to prove he's ready to go, but he couldn't get on the field.

I think he's expendable, but I don't think SD would get enough in return to justify trading him. He's probably on the team for 2008.

We once had the same situation with Sproles and I'm glad he's still here.

As for that playoff game, EVERYBODY sucked!!! Including Rivers!!

I don't understand why a few posters have so much resentment towards Parker.

Some keep mentioning the 2006 playoff game. Well in that case, we should cut half the team because I can come up with several other players who sucked in that game.
Rivers for that horrible interception at the Patsies 45 on "FIRST DOWN!"
McCree for trying to make ESPN highlights.
The entire defense for not holding the Patsies in the fist half with 15 seconds left.
The list goes on and on about how we should have and could have won that game.

He was injured last season. So what?
If he's injured this season, then there's a deciding factor but until then.

There's very few Parker haters and they're just haters without purpose!!!

Sproles has been here 3 years and was injured 1.

Parker has been here 6 years and has been injured 5.

    ****** analogy is ******.

BTW, Sproles scored more TDs in 1 game last season the EP did all of 2006.

Sproles was injured for an entire season like Parker.

BTW... one season does not justify a player's career. One game doesn't either.
With that said... Parker has more touchdowns in his NFL career than Sproles.

This analogy is right on target.
I like Sproles but I'm just pointing out Parker hater's mentality.
