Yep, the little fella has been unfairly scrutinized. He's a star in the making.

Don't read too much into it. He's still fodder.

It's preseason. They are seeing what he can do. Nothing more.

The plays he is making are plays that always work in preseason. It's different when the real bullets fly.

All depends who would have his roster spot instead. If he makes it I want him as a 3rd down scat back and backup KR and 3rd string PR, nothing more. Regardless, he will likely reinjure himself at some point during the year if he sees more than limited action and AJ will not invest money into him in the future just like Florence.

Obviously he's going to make it as a "third down scatt back/kr" ...what else would he make it as? Left tackle?

Sproles certainly has done well tonight, but how would he do in a real game?

I'd rather have him returing kicks and punts to avoid injury to Turner. Plus he is quick which is nice too

Pinnock looks freaking slow compared to LT and Turner.

He supposedly lost some weight, but doesn't seem quicker at all.

I'll give Sproles credit- he showed some heart. That said can we stop trying to run him at the pile? Maybe it's just me. :icon_shrug:

    Dude better play hard.

The problem with Sproles is that he's too predictable on offense. Like Madden said, you know it's going to be a screen or a draw when he's in there. The dude can't run up the middle and he's too small to pick up the blitz. So once you put him on offense, you're at a disadvantage. And Darren is probably only our 3rd best kick returner (behind Turner and Cro) and our 5th best punt returner (behind Cro, Davis, Parker and Cletis).

I've always liked Darren, but I doubt he'll make the team.

I made that post in March. (He was my adopted Bolt then).

Of course Darren makes this team. The dude was a very good returner as our starter his rookie season. Why wouldn't he be our starter now that he's healthy?

Then there's the "can't stay healthy" or the "not durable enough" vibe I seem to get. WTF? He didn't play for Southwestern Community College as a scatback/third down back. He was starting tailback for Kansas State University, where he holds just about every RB record possible and is considered the best football player (you read that right) in the school's history. In the Big XII. I saw him rip apart one of the best college defenses I've ever seen (Oklahoma) in the Big XII Championship a few years back, where he ran for 235 yards. He is the 11th leading rusher in college football history. The dude was rock-solid.

It's not that he had a rash of nagging injuries last year, and he was held out as a precaution. He broke his freaking leg. I think that's a pretty good reason to miss some games.

Not only do I think he makes the team, I think he's Mike Turner's heir apparent. Mark it down.

Perhaps but we havent seen enough of Cletis or Cro to call them better than Sproles at returns. Cro has never returned a punt in a game before at any level.

Im not sure how effective he can be on offense but he did show something tonight.

Agree and if he plays real well he also could make Sproles available for trade. Im sure they could get something for him in a trade.

I see Gross replacing Turner and Sproles becoming trade/cut fodder. Sproles is a stick of dynamite, but doesn't have the grunt to power through tackles or carry a LB 5 yards like Gross/Turner.

    Sproles is definetly a stud.

See the cannon Whitehurt has? Reminecent of Humpries throwing it 40-60 yards, in traffic, threading the needle.

Really liked Buster. Dudes got game.

    Naanee looks good too.

Chandler was a goofball. (Stop in the middle and wait for the ball?)

Weddle is going to be good.

Better fix the IMLB and the safeties. We were really soft there.

Chandler made more plays than Naanee. If you go back and watch the play where Madden said Chandler waited on the ball, it didn't seem like he had the time to come back for it. He came out of his break and the ball was right there. Maybe Chandler drifted a bit on his route, but it sure didn't seem like he had time to break back toward the ball.

Darren does not impress on punt returns. He just doesn't have that extra gear to make the play.

Cromartie returned punts his freshman year at Florida state. His long was 62, and he had another game where he averaged close to 30 yards on 3 punt returns.

I've seen enough of Cletis returning punts to say he's better than Sproles at it.

Although he played inspired tonight, remember, thats SECOND TEAM dudes he's going against.

I still say cut him, I'd rather see Gross make the team.

Weddle is already good. He is going to get "great". Just needs to know the scheme inside out with 110% confidence.

Sproles will help out on 3rd down, and returning kicks. He will make the team. He was the only thing really working for them against the Seahawks.
