Also on Saturday, the Dolphins signed running back Jesse Chatman, who spent the last three years with the San Diego Chargers. He was released by the team on July 26. During his tenure with the Chargers, the 25-year-old Chatman played in 41 games, all in a reserve role, and rushed for 428 yards and three touchdowns on 79 carries, caught 10 passes for 115 and returned six kickoffs for a 20.0-yard average. He had his most productive season in 2004 when he played in 15 contests and compiled 392 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 65 attempts. This included a 103-yard, 1-TD rushing performance (11 atts.) on October 10 against Jacksonville.

The 5-8, 245-pound Chatman, who originally made San Diego's roster as an undrafted college free agent in 2002, was a three-year letterman at Eastern Washington (1999-2001), where he was a Division I-AA All-America selection in his final season there when he rushed for 2,096 yards. He finished his collegiate career with 4,173 yards rushing and 53 touchdowns. Born September 22, 1979 in Houston, Texas, Chatman attended Franklin High School in Seattle, Washington.
