The Chargers are expected to have at least one more draft pick signed today, and it is almost certain they will have all but first-round pick Larry English inked when rookies report Sunday.

That doesn't mean English won't be done, but one source said those negotiations "haven't really even started."

The team will likely initiate those talks in earnest later today or tomorrow after taking care of the lower-round picks.

Robert Sheets, the agent for third-round pick Louis Vasquez said this morning, "This deal will be done by today."

Other agents said they are talking with the Chargers and are close to deals or have agreed in principle.

"We'll get it done before Sunday," said Neil Schwartz, who represents fourth-rounder Tyronne Green.

The Chargers have two other fourth-round picks and a sixth-rounder to sign.

They will likely put seventh-round pick Demetrius Byrd on the non-football IR.

Great news! I hope that English is at the very least in camp by the time the veterans report, but we'll have to see I suppose.

Good to know they're making progress, with English its kinda expected there will be something of a holdout. So long as its not a long one.

though even merriman held out a while and he ended up as rookie of the year :icon_shrug:

we need those rookies in camp to prove they can play and learn our system, the sooner they come they can push the vets for time or atleast learn from them if the go down they'll be ready

I sometimes wonder if it isn't "fashionable" for 1st round picks to hold out for a few days? Given that he is not a projected starter at this point, you have to figure that English will be on the field getting "live reps" for our first pre-season game.
