So long as he's crucified off the field and still sacks the QB on the field I don't really care.

Okay, may as well add Tebow at this point, as we've already had
more off-field circus negative attention on this team since the
draft than we've suffered in the last 5 years.

Don't get me wrong, DF has every right to say what he did...
and he could even conceivably be correct. But it's the sort of thing a vet
knows will get him crucified (comments on PFT are almost 100%
anti-Freeney...and of course many use it to slur Chargers as well).
Obviously those PFT dweebs don't matter...but I'm not digging the 2013 sideshow

After what Gaither did to the Bolts last year, I'd be cautious on the money I paid out also.

I'm not affected by it negatively or positively primarily because it's just that: a sideshow.

I'm only interested in the show on the field.

Yes, and the proof that sideshows don't distract from the game on the field,
is that neither of us is talking about it now.

Not sure what you mean by this.

There is no game on the field to discuss at this juncture.

Well, it's not exactly a crazy notion....... they must discuss something in those owner meetings. ;)

And, it's been documented that in the last 7 years, there was been next to no action in the restricted free agent market. Almost, as if the teams agreed not to try to sign other teams RFAs.

More likely its just the era of "build through the draft." Pushed along by the failures of the Raiders, Redskins, Eagles etc... in recent years bombing in FA...and ironically the Chargers last year.

That's certainly part of it, but it doesn't explain everything. There are always owners desperate to win, like Snyder and Jones, but even they have avoided spending this year.

When you consider the whole story sold to the players, was that the rookie cap would make more money available to the vets who earned it..... that has turned out to be a big fat lie.

Snyder & Jones didn't spend in FA because of their salary cap penalties.

Not saying there's "collusion", but I think it has something to do with some teams not wanting to spend the vet minimum.

Yes, but they are but two examples...... other teams used to spend big in free agency too. This year, nobody did..... even the Broncos (who spent) lost Dumervil over $.

I just find it slightly ironic that after the owners get a reduction in what they have to pay to rookies, they don't want to spend on vets either. If it's not collusion, then everyone suddenly decided to change their way of doing business. I wouldn't be shocked if these things get discussed at the owners meetings.

While I agree it's wrong if collusion is happening I have trouble feeling empathy for millionaires getting screwed by billionaires.

Yes, I see that fan perspective as well....... but, it doesn't mean that isn't what's happening. ;)

What benefit is it to owners to collude if they still have to spend a minimum? Teams have a floor to spend to, I would imagine all of them are spending money, they just aren't spending it on Dwight Freeney.

    I got that.

I'm not losing sleep over it either...... just pointing out that Freeney may not be off his nut. ;)

I dont know, does it sound to anyone like he didnt want to sign with the Chargers, but it was the best he could get?

He sounds like a lot of super stars past their prime, they just can't accept that they're skill is declining with age. At 33, he is the oldest player on our roster, and probably would be on most rosters.

It sounds like he didn't want to sign for the contract amount he got but it was the best he could get.

Who's to say he wouldn't have gladly signed here early on in free agency had we offered then the dollar amount he entered free agency assuming he would command?

I'm sure his personal case fuels the accusation, but if I'm reading the story correctly he's not accusing the owners of specifically colluding against him, he's accusing them of collusion to spend less in free agency overall and his case is just one example.

If I recall, Miami went pretty HUGE in FA this year. Though they may be the only ones.

He has a message for the teams that that passed on him in free agency:

"I'm going to make all of them regret it."
