I like them both but wonder what their injury histories mean to this team. Do they have roster spots next season?

Alexander just depresses me, the guy has legit top 10 WR talent, he does everything well except stay on the field.

Floyd will come back. And get hurt again.

They could both be gone.......... and yet they could both be back. Eddie Royal for all the early flashes cannot stay on the field either. We need wideouts, we're down to Hawkins and Tutu now for chrissakes.

Kevin Acee's analyst usually comes with a grain of salt, but he did say he envisions Allen and Brown to be the top 2 wide outs on this team for many years which I actually agree with

Allen, Brown, and Green if used correctly can be a very nasty trio for many years

I would imagine DX is done, at least for us but Floyd said he's coming back although I don't think he'll be anything more than a number 3 or comes in as a deep threat specialist

I wonder what the Gnats expect to get for Nicks. I'm not a huge fan, but I'd give a 5th or 6th for him if healthy.

Brown needs to start stepping up.

M80 is a straight up mental call. Can he mentally get back out on the field and play 100% after the hit he took, and the possible neck injuries he just avoided. We shall see. DX will attempt to come back, but my guess is no one will make gameplans around him being WR1. Hopefully he comes back and plays #3 or #4 receiver behind VB and KA.

DX will attempt a comeback with the Chargers and might get another chance with us, but I don't expect much from him anymore. God made him a perfect specimen of a WR with one problem; incredibly weak ACLs. M-80 as Mad-Mike said will be a mental thing. Dielman couldn't (and justifiably) imagine getting back out there after a concussion and a seizure, M-80 might take a look at his life and think the exact same thing. Last I checked he's not out of the neck brace yet too.

Very good question, but you know we got a look at football is a business proposition and it's really hard to say just six weeks into the season I would imagine M80 back not so sure about DMX. Allen, Brown and Royal are playing pretty well.

M80 has to be done on this team. Great locker room guy, a true professional. But, the money we're paying him until he's 35, and the amount of injuries that have piled up on his body, it's just time to move on.

Allen is Rivers' new number 1 clearly. Allen has been open so many times and Philip has missed him we could be talking 10+ catches for Allen the last few games.

I'd still give DX a shot. The guy exploded on the scene last year and was just open all the time. But, like I said when free agency started, the guy cannot make it through the dog days of training camp. That being said, I would give him a little over the vet minimum given his terrible knees.

But, I would also still draft a WR in the later rounds or sign someone in free agency. If the Cards tank, they could be looking to get rid of Fitzgerlad's contract, and Boldin will be a free agent, Whisenhunt has connections to these guys.

So our WR corps could look like -- Keenan Allen, Vincent Brown, Eddie Royal, Danario Alexander, FA/Drafted Player.

I'd easily give a 5th or 6th for him, I like Nicks a lot, think he'd be a great addition.

I see both players getting one more season to right their respective ships. If either one gets injured by the end of next year, it'll be time for them to turn in their playbooks.

I'm leaning toward M80 retiring and would bet DX mounts a come back. Like has been posted, DX has plenty of talent, but the FO has got to weigh that against four serious knee injuries. I'd have trouble keeping him on the squad next year, just because I'd hate to really get on a winning streak and then have PR lose one of his favorite targets. Could happen to any WR, but DX seems to have a real ACL problem.

In other news Broncos waived Tavarres King, I really liked this kid at Georgia and through out the draft process.
Could be a very nice vertical threat for us to go with Allen and Brown

I liked Tavarres, I don't think we'll get him, but I do think he'll be a useful player for whoever does pick him up.

I'd say it's possible we see one or the other, but likely not both - and I think that's a plan that's been in place since we were able to lay hands on Keenan Allen in the 3rd round of the last draft.

DX's knees at this point are just gone - ligaments aren't like bones, they don't heal stronger than before in the broken places, they're more like soldered connections in pipes... the weak point. We might offer him a one year, show-me deal to get him to camp, but at this point he can't be trusted to stay healthy long-term and as such can't be considered as anything more than a year-to-year option at best (no one is going to tie guaranteed money to those damaged knees).

M80's status, I think, could really depend on how much we end needing available cap space to resign the likes of Butler and Rinehart. Much as we'd all love to hope that cap space will be cleared up by releasing Clary, it's far more likely that he's let to play out his contract and - God willing - we at least groom a successor behind him, who if we're lucky will outplay him at some point (I'm banking on us drafting at least one interior lineman in next year, if for no other reason than they need to start thinking about Nick's successor and often time those kind of project centers are given redshirt seasons playing at one of the guard spots before kicking into the middle).

To be honest though, I'm really not worried about our receiver moving forward though - and wouldn't feel compelled to spend a premium pick on the position unless phenomenal value fell in our laps on Day 2 again, similar to how Allen did. Take a 4th or 5th (or preferably 6th, but that may not be do-able) round flier on a guy that has physical tools but needs a good deal of polish, and let him put in the work to develop and force his way into reps and playing time (L'Damian Washington from Mizzou, for example).

I think Malcom Floyd is unbelievable but he could easily be dead. It's hard not to think about that for him and his family.

I think Keenan Allen is the best wide receiver I've seen in a long time wearing Charger blue. And yes, I'm including Vincent Jackson. And frankly, Vincent Brown is not far behind. They're both amazing route runners with tremendous hands and body control.

I'd prefer to keep them both on the flank and watch them grow together.

But WRs are a platoon anyway. It's tough to say about DX and M80... I guess the bottom line for me is, should they retire for health reasons, we're actually in very very good shape. Tutu and Royal rotating in for KA and VB is fine by me.

RE: KA, VB, and Eddie Royal
Once upon a time PR had two tall, long-striding possession receivers, Vincent Jackson and M80, and one tall long-reaching, body-checking Antonio Gates to throw to. And Rivers did well. Then VJ left, Floyd missed a couple starts, and Gates was slowed by a foot injury. Coincidentally, two fast and nimble WRs, Eddie Royal and Robert Meacham, were on the field and the Boltz passing game pretty much stunk. At that time, a young lad who prefers to remain anonymous
(hint hint, <<< he wears a moustache and his hair parted down the middle)
wondered if PR could actually make throws to smaller, quicker targets.
This year, Rivers served that young lad (in a nice, Christian way) a big steaming mug of STFU.

What I liked about Floyd and DX is their size and ability to stretch the field by making long catches.

That being said, we don't do so much of that now, which is a good thing because we're getting the ball out quicker on shorter routes and picking up chunks of yards. With that system, players like Royal, Green, Brown & Allen suit the system better, they can get those short passes, and add the YAC too.

I haven't weighed in on this, previously, just because next season is
    soooooooooooo far away.

Yes, I could see how the injury could get in M80s head, but my guess
is that he still has too much to prove...much of the league hardly knows who he is,
after all these years. Damned shame.

    p.s. Ban threat? Me?!? :roflmao:
