Ok, like most of you locals, I have been to Seaworld more times than I can remember. Yesterday me and the little lady went there to meet up with her sister and nephew. We met at 2pm for lunch, and I could not recommend this experience highly enough.

    THIS IS A MUST DO.

It's called "Dine With Shamu", and it's fricken AWESOME. You sit right on the water at a special side pool, and Shamu is litterally feet from you. There is a huge buffet (delicious), and while you eat the trainers make Shamu do tricks, and they field any questions that you have. I would guess that there were about 100 people per seating, and you can do either lunch or dinner. It was the coolest thing I have ever done at Seaworld.

If you are an out of towner, make CERTAIN that you schedule this. I have no idea what it costs (might be pricey) because my wife gets everything for free through her job, but I assure you that it's worth every penny.

Here are some pics from my camera phone to give you an idea of how cool this is. The people in the pics are at the tables. You are literally RIGHT THERE.

Feel free to mock my camera skills.

This is a great way to spend a lunch, and gets the EC stamp of approval with two thumbs way up. Really cool...

No. Although he weighs 6,000 lbs, so the trainers do warn that the possibility exists.

"Pets Rule" is fricken way cool, too. Kimmie my love, you HAVE to take your daughter to this. It is INSANE. Very intimate with Shamu.

We didn't even go to the Shamu Show afterwards. It would have been a let down.

The food was delicious. And like most buffets, I ate WAY too much. I even packed my pocket with homemade chocolate chip cookies when we left (they were delicious).

Do they still have the pearl divers there at Sea World? I remember when we had yearly passes and my mother and I would pay five bucks, I think it was, for them to go down and fish up oysters, most of which had pearls in them. We once wound up with a HUGE black pearl that Mother had set in a ring with a couple of diamonds. Never did know what happened to it.........probably that rich effer of an uncle of mine found it after she passed away and pocketed it.

Thanks for the recommendation. The kids and I have been to Sea World many, many times but we've never done the Dine With Shamu. That will change next month. Thanks again.

Thanks for the recommendation EC. My middle daughter is a TOTAL animal/nature freak. She would go out of her mind eating with Shamu.

I have a picture of a dolphin going right up to the glass to "kiss" her, it is a priceless photo. Took it right before the attendant told us to obey the signs and stay the hell away from the glass.

Hey Buck, Seaworld should definitely be on your schedule. I would also recommend Knotts Berry Farm over Disneyland: more rides, way cheaper, less crowds.

I also think that Legoland is overrated, but some people seem to like it.

The pearl divers were great. Why did they get rid of them?

I think they got rid of them in the early 80's, but I'm not positive. Maybe a SD local can give a better answer.

PS. I liked the pearl divers too. I think I still have one of those pearls in my mom's garage.

I don't know .... I know I got two pearls for a girlfriend when I worked at Sea World in '84.

I don't remember if they dove for 'em or just got them out of the big aquarium deals.

Holy crap. That is 100x better than getting a kiss through the glass!

It's those cool intimate moments that really endure, and make those amusement park trips worth it.
