    It's just a practice, but ...

    Oh no.

Philip Rivers -- one of the most competitive people I've ever known -- might have stayed down at some point if this morning had been a game.

Larry English repeatedly sped past Brandyn Dombrowski and had to hold up to not take down Rivers. And not just in one series.

English, the Chargers' first-round pick in 2009, looked as good as he ever has. And maybe, just maybe, he would have had that much success against Marcus McNeill.

If so, then English will make people forget Shawne Merriman (and maybe Junior Seau) by the fourth game of the season.

It is true that English has had a good offseason, was close on a lot of plays last year and has made some changes in how he plays as he learns the intricacies of outside linebacker versus the defensive end position he played in college.

But this should have scared the Chargers.

Maybe the afternoon will bring a different result.

    • The Chargers are giving undrafted rookie Nick Richmond a lot of work at left tackle. Given that he is 6-8, 309 and moves pretty well, they have hopes he can develop. He started just one season at TCU and has a lot to learn. It seems a little big for him now when he works with the second team, but he shows flashes of being able to handle himself.

    • Tyronne Green, drafted in the fourth round as a guard and worked at center this offseason, is also playing right tackle now.

    • Ogemdi Nwagbuo had a really good morning practice working with the first team at nose tackle. He's fast.

    • The Chargers practice again at 4 p.m. The workout is open to the public.

this is the problem with training camp, if one players looks good it means another looked bad, a DB gets an int, then the QB threw a pick, a OLB/DE gets to the QB, then the LT/RT looked bad on the play...

let's see how they do in preseason and into the season

No idea what this means for either of them but I'd definitely be concerned about Dombrowski. Doesn't mean I don't like him don't think he could be something good but that does make me cringe some

McNeill is licking his chops and praying that this kind of newsline doesn't stop. And AJ has his anal lube at the ready, just in case he has to take one for the team.

If your to believe XX 1090, English beat three different left tackles (I'm assuming its Tra Thomas, Dombrowski, and Nic Richmond). If that's the case maybe not so bad, maybe English is just going nuts.

AJ doesn't mind taking one for the team. He just doesn't want it to come from anyone lower than Dean's pay grade.

No ****, Dombo is a scrub and would make any DE look good as the opposing OLT

Not saying English isnt good, he could easily become our best pass rusher, but id feel a hell of alot better if this news came against a real OLT like McNeill and not a scrub ORG playing OLT

It's a tad bit to early for genuwhine complaining at how bad the LT is. Defense is usually way ahead of the offense, especially this early in camp. I would call out the dawgs and go searching for MM just yet, give it a couple weeks.

If you look at last years stats, English had the same amount of tackles as Merriman and only 2 less sacks with a lot less playing time and during his rookie year. We have something special here

Good to hear our linemen are getting the chance to step into the shoes of other linemen and learn the position and responsiblities.

Deffinatly next jersey for me is the greatest TE Gatesy.

Unlike VJ and SM, McNeil's leverage over AJ will increase if the training camp performances don't change for the better against guys like English.
