This article makes it sound like Parker's departure from the Bolts is a done deal. What do you guys think?

I don't get why someone would trade for him when EVERYONE knows we're gonna cut him by the end of camp.

How long did it take Chambers to get up to speed on an offense he knew? If they want Parker in time to get him up to speed by the beginning of the season, you need to get him now. Neither of those teams has the margin of error to wait too long.

As long as the Bolts get something in return for him, what does it matter?

There are people in this forum who'd give up a 4th rounder to a team if they'd only take Parker off the Chargers' hands!

Just how many 5 or 6th round picks are better than him?? For that matter how many make a club period.

Nothing says we have to spend the pick on a wide receiver - I like the odds of finding a player who can make the squad with a late pick in the hands of AJ and Co.

Just the same, shouldn't the article read down to 3 teams? He is still a Charger and I'm still hoping he can stay and make the final cut.

    .....

I wonder how much the intelligence level of F88P's posts have negatively influenced the attitude toward Mr. Parker in here? "With Friends Like That You Don't Need"...................................

    Multiple reasons.

-Chargers might not cut him. Unless we really need the space we could keep him on the Roster if were unable to get a good draft pick. In fact we probably won't trade him for lower than a 6th round pick.
-If they get him in trade they get his contract which isn't that bad if Parker can play like some people expect him to play.
-If they allow him to slip as a free agent another team could pick him up. Additionally I doubt he will only get a couple million that he gets with his current contract. He will get paid more.

Depends on who's doing the drafting. If we're talking about Bobby Beathard, then even the 1st day draft picks might not make the club, but A.J. Smith's record for "hits" in the late rounds is better than most GMs.

What makes that all the more impressive is that this is an outstanding team with a deep roster, so it's more difficult for a late round pick to make the Chargers' 53 man roster than it would be on some cellar dweller team.

The other factor is $$$. Parker is scheduled to make $2+ mil, so if he's not going to contribute here, I'd rather pay a Brandon Siler-type $350K to make an impact on special teams, and save the rest of the money toward re-signing Cro, Rivers or Merriman.

If we keep Parker on the roster they is no chance we can give Osgood the kind of rep that he wants. I would much rather see EP leave in a trade than have KO go. KO is valuble in ST and given the chance I think he could spell VJ as a solid backup. While were at it package Floyd withEP and try to get a 3rd.

That is a nice pat on the back for Smith , my point however is looking at the league as a whole rather than Smith. All teams love to hope that late round picks make it but if you look at the stats extremly few do.

The idea of landing Parker who should not only make the Jets / Browns roster but also fit into their system which is almost a carbon copy of the Chargers would make the trade very appealing for those clubs.

When I see these Parker is getting traded threads, I first thought we were trading p88f, aka Poof. For a bag of stale chips and an old crusty gym sock.

    Oh, to dream...

    Since AJ has taken over:

    2003:
    5th: Mike Scifres
    6th: Hanik Milligan

    2004:
    5th: Dave Ball
    5th: Michael Turner
    6th: Ryan Krause

    2005:
    5th: Wesley Britt
    6th: Wes Sims

    2006:
    5th: Tim Dobbins
    6th: Jeromey Clary
    6th: Kurt Smith

    2007:
    5th: Legedu Naanee

    2008:
    5th: Marcus Thomas
    6th: DeJuan Tribble

Looking at AJ's draft history he's done relatively well. 2 Pro-Bowlers, several were solid backups, 2 are current starters. Only a few of them never made the team, and most are still in the league on a team.

I think Kurt Smith is the only one not on a team right now, but he was on a team last season.

Eh.....its Adam Shein so take it with a grain of salt. I doubt Parker is narrowing his choices. More like AJ has two teams with the most interest is the one id believe.

    Apparently, Naanee is one

Truth be told is that Parker makes too much money to be a #4 WR who is getting big pressure from a much bigger and cheaper Naanee for that #4 spot.

    Jets 2008

    4 5 27 162 Erik Ainge QB Tennessee
    5 6 5 171 Marcus Henry WR Kansas

    9 6 20 189 Drew Coleman DB Texas Christian
    10 7 12 220 Titus Adams DT Nebraska

    2005
5 5 25 161 Andre Maddox DB North Carolina State
    6 6 8 182 Cedric Houston RB Tennessee
    7 6 24 198 Joel Dreessen TE Colorado State
    8 7 26 240 Harry Williams WR Tuskegee

    2004
    5 5 11 143 Erik Coleman DB Washington State

    9 7 34 235 Derrick Ward RB Ottawa (KS)
    10 7 35 236 Rashad Washington DB Kansas State

Clearly the Jets would benifit if they landed a player who made a solid contrabution for a 5 th round or later selection based on what the players they have selected have done.

Man what I guy has to do to make a point.

why does it matter how the Browns or Jets do late in the draft? If they sucked at picking in the 1st round would it mean their 1st rounder wasn't worth much? Of course not.

What matters is how we do with late round picks and whether it would be worth making a move like that. AJ has shown in the past that he has done relatively well late in the draft.

Now I'm not saying we should trade him, but a late round pick for Parker is fair value. If the trade happens hopefully he picks up a gem, or maybe it'll allow him to make a move to trade or give him a little flexibility to take a risk on a guy when normally he wouldn't. If you can get something for a guy you don't have a use for it's good thing for you.
