    Obviously disagree.

Roethlisberger: Everyone uses the "he has 2 rings" argument as if thats the only thing that makes a great QB, if that was the case than you might as well argue that Brad Johnson was better than Dan Marino. His defense has carried him, they were 3rd overall in 05' when he won his first, and 1st overall in 08' when he won his second. And every year they lower in rank...so has their record, without Polamalu they didn't even make the playoffs last year, in fact, they lost to the Raiders and Cheifs!!!

Favre: Maybe 10yrs ago. Last year was a fluke, everything went right until the end.
Rodgers: Tough to argue but it comes down to the fact that this guy has never won a playoff game. I think his fantasy football value is starting to get him overrated as a player, but if you've payed attention you noticed he's not that different from Tony Romo, big #'s over big wins.

Cant argue with the rest though.

As far as Rodgers goes I do believe he belongs in the elite class. I'm basing this on actually watching him play. He makes good decisions, doesn't throw alot of picks, is very accurate. He reminds me of PR but with mobility.
As far as not winning any playoff games...does the fault fall solely on him? Could it be that the rest of his team didn't show up? Or his coach got outcoached?

The rest I have to agree with. Ben is good but not elite. Favre is good for the same reasons as Ben...but also not elite.
Schaub does it with a good tight end and one good receiver to throw to.

I agree with 1-3 and no no order really. All three bring unique skills to their position.

Any article that uses Elite & Cutler in the same sentence losses some credibility in my book.

Whats with all the man love for Rodgers? He is consistently above Rivers in many ranking I've read yet the dude has never won a playoff game.

Analysis: Cutler was an elite quarterback in 2008 when he played for the Broncos, but 26 interceptions for Chicago in 2009 moved him out of my top group. With Mike Martz calling the plays, Cutler should regain his 4,000-yard form and re-emerge as the elite quarterback the Bears thought they acquired in a trade with Denver.
Chance of being elite: 95 percent

Cutler continues to be the most overrated QB in the NFL. He was terrible last year, but now since Mike Martz is on board, everyone is giving him a pass again. STILL has never had a winning season in the NFL.

Watch him play. If winning a playoff game is all it takes...then where's Volek on the rankings?

Based on Volek's preseason game this past week, he is far from elite .. :p

I agree that he is an elite QB. But not ahead of Rivers.

Why do so many people say play off wins and SB's are not a good evaluation method for QB's when discussing Eli Manning, but when it comes to other guys, these are valid way for evaluation?

Fact is, SB's, playoff wins, and wins overall are a team thing. One play cannot win a game on his own. Just because a QB wins a playoff game, it doesn't mean he is great (see Eli Manning), and just because one loses, it doesn't mean it is his fault (See Rodgers)

It's clear that Clayton puts a lot of credo in SB rings. I guess by his calculation Trent Dilfer and Mark Rypien were elite QB's in their time.

Intersting list/grouping/observation either way. Some in the wrong categories but for most part about true on league wide QB situations.

Really, I'd rearrange the top 7, bumping Philip and Aaron Rodgers above Roethlisberger and Favre, and moving Brees above Brady. I don't even know if I'd consider the rest of them guys, other than maybe McNabb as "Elite". Very good, you bet, but elite? No.

So my top 10 would read:
    1. Manning
    2. Brees
    3. Brady
    4. Rivers
    5. Rodgers
    6. Favre
    7. Roethlisberger
    ---------------------------
    8. McNabb
    9. Palmer
    10. ****

A list of 33 quarterbacks of which 14 (42%) are considered "elite" to me is utter nonsense, it should be only those guys considered to be the very best at what they do right now.

Should contain no more than 5 IMO -- P. Manning, Brees, Rivers, Brady, Rodgers. Exact order is negotiable.

I think its because he just has this air of tidyness about his game that makes you think he is elite. Its all smoke and mirrors! hehe lol

I will say this for him...he throws a very pretty, tight spiral! Better than most.

If Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Brett Favre, Arron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Donovan McNabb, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, and Matt Schaub are all elite then by definition aren't they all average?

I have a problem with him having such a large group of "elite" QBs, regardless of any argument of who belongs in the group.

14 of the 32 starting QBs in the league are "elite"? That's almost half! That's hardly an elite group.

Are we talking about Cutler or the teams he plays for here?

(Not that I think he's is or is going to be elite or anything.)

Yeah, almost half are listed as elite. Another list that's pretty much a joke.

And scratchnz NAILED it about Cutler.

Was scratchnz talking about Cutler or Rodgers?

It sounded more like a spot on description of Cutler, but he responded to Ray asking about the man love for Rodgers.

Anyway, there's lots of reasons to argue that Cutler sucks. I just don't like citing "his" win/loss record as one of the main reasons anymore than I like someone calling Roethlisberger elite because "he" won two super bowls.

    Eh.

I'm splitting hairs because there are legit reasons to argue that Cutler's overrated, but "his" win/loss record really isn't a strong one.

I think you mis read it. He was the 1st person in the "Chad Pennington" Category. He was not in the Elite category. With that said, I wouldn't have #10-14 in the Elite category either
