This thread is a gathering place for Bolt fans outside the U.S.

I just thought I would start a Eurobolt thread since the number of fans world-wide seems to be exploding. I cannot keep track of who these great fans are, where they are, what they like, what they do...etc etc.

Please use this new-member template as a guide only. Answer what you want to, and add things that pertain to you:

This is not a thread to separate these fans out. I hope it is more so they can chat amongst themselves, exchange information, even possibly get together, support the Bolts and maybe other sports they like.

If you have already posted in the Introduction thread, you can just copy and paste your information here.

Please feel free to keep posting anywhere on the forum you would like to. This is not to limit that activity at all.

    WELCOME ONE AND ALL.

WHERE WERE YOU BORN: Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego

WHERE DO YOU RESIDE: Seville, Spain

    MARRIED: Yes

    KIDS: One son

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE EX CHARGER: Lance Alworth

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CURRENT CHARGER: Philip Rivers

WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN THE CHARGERS PLAY IN PERSON: Balboa Stadium, San Diego Stadium, Jack Murphy Stadium

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHARGER MOMENT: It was October 15, 1967, when Leslie Duncan intercepted a pass against Kansas City and ran it back 100 yards for a TD. "Speedy" had 203 yards in returns that day, 35 on a fumble recovery for a touchdown and 68 on four kickoff returns. The Chargers beat the Chiefs 45-31. The two teams combined for 897 yards total offence and 622 in returns.

WHAT WILL THE TEAMS RECORD BE: 8-8

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FOOD AT A GAME: I've never had a decent bite to eat at a ball game.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE EX CHARGER: Leslie O'Neal

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CURRENT CHARGER: I would have said Cro before this season. Love Malcom Floyd, and how he has gone from apparent scrap heap to starter and bigtime contributor. WHAT WILL THE TEAMS RECORD BE: 9-7, will it be good enough to win the Division?

OTHER COMMENTS: Gr8 to see so many guys representing outside the US. I was amazed to see so many great Charger fans in London

Questions for all of you overseas Bolts fans...

1.) What made you first become a NFL fan? I don't know but I'm assuming that it's not as widely televised over there. Were you able to watch it at home or did you have to go out to watch it? Please fill me in.

2.) What made you choose the Chargers for your team?

3.) What would you say are the most popular NFL teams in your area?

4.) What are the most popular sports in your area? I went to Australia two years ago. They love their Cricket and Rugby.

1.) What made you first become a NFL fan? I don't know but I'm assuming that it's not as widely televised over there. Were you able to watch it at home or did you have to go out to watch it?

We live in the nearby of RheinMain Air Base in Frankfurt. My younger brother used to play with children of Soldier Families in the neighborhood basketball and wanted to watch american TV series. We bought an adapter to receive AFNetwork, so we could hear and see the blackandwhite screen. In those days they showed the games three sundays later.
My first superbowl was 1979 Pittsburgh vs. Dallas 35:31
and we were happy to see the hard working steelmen top the moneybacked texas cowboys.

2.) What made you choose the Chargers for your team?

Air coryell west coast offense with Dan Fouts and three wideouts to get for the pass. I liked seeing the slow motion when the ball flies long to grabbing hands. And the lightning
sign of course that was cool, man.

3.) What would you say are the most popular NFL teams in your area?
Because there has been good televison in the 90ies.
There are lots of Miami, Patriots and Oakland jackets sold,
but I think more from people, who travelled to the states.
When they won the SB, I could see SF and TB jerseys too.

4.) What are the most popular sports in your area? I went to Australia two years ago. They love their Cricket and Rugby.
Of course SOCCER called Fußball. Every boy wants to kick on the streets. Then handball and basketball.

What made you first become a NFL fan? I don't know but I'm assuming that it's not as widely televised over there. Were you able to watch it at home or did you have to go out to watch it?

Back in the early 90s this 'weird' game appeared on a British TV station (Channel 4). I'm sports mad anyway so I started to get interested. This show was only an hr and 15 mins long and carried highlights of one of the previous weeks games plus some real short snippets of the other games.

Back then ofcourse there was no internet so I used visit a magazine store in the centre of Dublin who used take and sell a British American Football newspaper called 'First Down'. Through it and another monthly (again British) magazine called 'Touchdown' I started to understand the game.

Now it was time to have a team to follow/support. I ended up writing to a number of teams, teams that were attractive for whatever reason. Among these 4 or 5 were the Chargers. Suffice to say the good people in the San Diego PR dept back then looked after me bigtime. They sent me their then monthly magazine, posters, stickers, whatever they could. That was me hooked. Been a Bolts fanatic ever since. Got to my first game in '94 at the Murph, been to 4 more since.

Like Cranberry and Osmekaman AFRTS (Armed Force Radio and TV service) kept me sane through the 80s. Channel 4 v rarely showed the Chargers. I used listen on an old radio on real crackly medium wave to games late on a sunday. Every 3 weeks or so 'the late game' would involve the Chargers.

Nowadays Sky Sports (a subscription based digital channel) give us 6 games live a week (more when the thurs games start). I subscribe to Gamepass however since I just gotta see the Bolts every game. Having said that Sky have been v good to us this year. They even have the Atlanta game live this sunday coming!.

2.) What made you choose the Chargers for your team?

See above, but again like Cranberry I loved the Air Coryell excitement of the 80s. Dan Fouts, Wes Chandler, Charlie Joiner, Gary Anderson etc (remember the somersault into the endzone against Miami like it was yesterday). Leslie O'Neal was the first first round draft pick I really followed and to this day he is a hero of mine.

3.) What would you say are the most popular NFL teams in your area?

American Football would not be all that popular in Ireland. Here the sports are football (soccer), gaelic games (football and hurling), rugby and to a lesser extent the rest. The jerseys u see around Ireland these days are those of ManYoo, Liverpool, Arsenal etc. V v rarely would u see an American football jersey. U can be sure though there will be Pats fans knocking about what with the Boston Irish connection and a certain American Irishman Mr Brady QB'ing them. Back in the 80s when it garnered a cult following there were 49er, Dolphin and Giants fans.

4.) What are the most popular sports in your area? I went to Australia two years ago. They love their Cricket and Rugby.

See above. Cricket is hardly played at all here and ain't popular. Any Irish guys wanting to play the game at a decent level have to go to England. Football is far and away the number 1 here, v much dominated by the English Premiership and Champions league. The domestic game is v poorly supported/attended. The international game has a following but only when they are competitive. In more recent years rugby has become v v popular. One of our provincial teams (like a state in the US I guess) has one the European cup twice in the last 3 years. The international team has not fared as well. Gaelic games is especially popular outside Dublin (I'm not a big fan myself).

Simon might disagree!!, the Dublin team has alot of support from the 'North side'!!.

Bet ur glad u never asked now!!!!!!!!, ha ha ha.

Thanks for filling me in Cranberry and DB!!!

It's amazing how there has been quite a lot of Chargers fans from overseas evolving over the last 2-3 years and I think it's extremely interesting to hear how all of you got your NFL coverage and how your interest in the Chargers evolved!!!

Way to represent us in London this season!!! :bolt:

Like others, I became interested in NFL when it was first served up on TV back (I believe) in the late 80s. I subsequently spent a lot of years overseas whilst serving in the army and was only able to watch it when I was in countries which showed it on TV.

2.) What made you choose the Chargers for your team?

I was always an infrequent viewer of NFL but that changed about 3 years ago when I took Mrs English for her first trip to USA. As I spent a lot of time in the hotel room watching sports, she asked a few questions and admitted to enjoying it. A Charger game was the first one we watched together and we developed a soft spot for them. However, the affiliation was set in stone when Anthony Waters was drafted as that happens to be my full name too!

3.) What would you say are the most popular NFL teams in your area?

I'm not really sure who the most popular teams are around here as I'm not aware of too many other NFL fans. I'm sure they are out there but not in my circle of drinking partners. Watch for an increase in Pats and TB fans now that they have been confirmed as the next teams to play at Wembley next year.

4.) What are the most popular sports in your area? I went to Australia two years ago. They love their Cricket and Rugby.

Without doubt the 2 most popular sports around here are football (soccer) and cricket. Personally I follow Darlington Football Club who play in the bottom of England's 4 professional leagues in front of 3-4 thousand fans each week. We are a passionate few and this link is to one of the fans websites run by a Darlington fan who lives in South Wales.

I also follow Durham County Cricket Club who are the current County Champions (the top domestic trophy available to be won).

people might follow GAA in Dublin but Im not one of them, bunch of knackers GAA players are!

What made you first become a NFL fan? I don't know but I'm assuming that it's not as widely televised over there. Were you able to watch it at home or did you have to go out to watch it?

My mate ben started following it a season before me and he got me into it when we went on a trip to Orlando last year so i caught the start of the 06-07 season of the NFL and NCAA and was hooked

2.) What made you choose the Chargers for your team?

Ben went out with somebody from San Diego and he started to follow them and again got me interested so I said why not!

3.) What would you say are the most popular NFL teams in your area?

I only ever see idiots in Patriots jerseys but sure what can you do. Soccer is way bigger here so as dublin bolt said its mainly soccer jerseys over here.

you could pick out the odd Irish American Football league jersey if you knew what they looked like, but the teams are terrible and not many people even know it exists.

    Dublin bolt answered this so.....:flag:

1.) What made you first become a NFL fan? I don't know but I'm assuming that it's not as widely televised over there. Were you able to watch it at home or did you have to go out to watch it? Please fill me in.

In Norway we have one nfl game broadcasted each week, it's the monday night football game!! BUT; they screen it on the following wedensday.
Some pubs, restaurantes etc send some games,
I watched superbowl XVII in Hard Rock cafe, Oslo

I actually became a fan of the game through the local sportsclub,
    The Oslo Vikings!

2.) What made you choose the Chargers for your team?

It was either the seahawks or the chargers, due to family over the pond in seattle and san diego. And the chargers had the most appeal :abq1:

3.) What would you say are the most popular NFL teams in your area?

Theres quite a bit of VIKING fans, also some raiders and patriots.
the rest is eavenly spread on the rest of the nfl teams

4.) What are the most popular sports in your area? I went to Australia two years ago. They love their Cricket and Rugby.

Crosscountry skiing, soccer, womens handball, biathlon ( a combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting)

    So....

How many Eurobolts would be up for a trip to SD for Thanksgiving next year? Obviously we would look to tie it in with a game at the Q as well.

Igorrules has already researched some self-catering apartments.

Mrs English and I just got back from New York where we spent the holiday period with friends of ours and had a blast.

We reckon it would be a great gathering.

my daughter Vera is an exchange-student in Roxboro,NC
from Sept '08 to June'09, so I will be allowed to come to

November 2009. I'm looking forward to accompany English,
Dublin Bolt and Igor Rules next year. I'll try everything
to make it true. Go Chargers !
