The Chargers are apparently expected to sign Az-zahir Hakim. I hope the injuries to some of our guys aren't too bad. Or that Marty hasn't lost all faith in Cro as a returner.

I think it's insurance on the Floyd injury and a clear illustration on what the team thinks about Osgood as a WR.

Anybody else think this might have something to do with Cromartie's problem holding on to the rock... ChargerRay posted when Hakim was available here...

I hope Floyd will get better for atleast next year. This is kind of sad. Rivers and Floyd have chemistry on the field.

I hope that Az-zahir Hakim can do something for us for the rest of the season. He has the playoff experience which I think can help us out.

Agreed, it is sad that Floyd appears out for the season.

Anyone know what kind of speed he has ? Could he be the burner that stretches the field vertically ? :icon_shrug:

If Hakim has retained his quickness, he'll be a nice option underneath and on the short-to-mid range routes. He'll be tough for a safety to match up with in the slot. He can get deep too, but I don't expect him to be a huge deep threat. He's a good return man. So Parker may be able to relieve himself of that duty. We'll need a healthy Eric Parker for the playoffs.

VJ is the guy who can stretch the field. We saw that last weekend. Vincent is going to have 100+ and a TD this weekend vs. the Chiefs. Bank it.

Well, we will get to test the "do we need a speed receiver?" theory with AZ.

I think this will add an element we are missing actually. VJ and Floyd were too similar in styles.

We will have a more balanced receiving core.
    1. One solid possession guy in Keenen
    2. Nice mix of speed/possession with Parker
    3. One pure speed guy in AZ to stretch the field
    4. One big possession guy as a red zone threat with VJ.

Throw in Gates and LT and there will be coverage issues for any defense playing us.

How lucky is this guy to be joining one of the most potent offenses in the NFL and a team that is already in the playoffs? Hakim does have playoff experience as well so this is a win-win IMO. :bolt2:

    Bolts Sign Az Hakim

The Chargers are expected to sign receiver Az-Zahir Hakim today, according to league sources, and the former San Diego State standout should practice with the team this afternoon.

Hakim, a nine-year veteran, was to arrive in San Diego and take a physical last night.

Hakim, 29, is being added to the roster because Malcom Floyd's high ankle sprain could keep him out the remainder of the season. It is unclear whether Floyd will be placed on injured reserve or the Chargers will make a roster move with another player.

Hakim was released Oct. 30 by the Detroit Lions and has spent much of his time since then working out in San Diego. He played in six games for the Lions, catching 17 passes for 147 yards.

In addition to playing receiver, Hakim is insurance on kick returns. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2000 as a special teamer. Having played in two Super Bowls with the Rams, he also adds playoff experience to the roster.

I think this is a good signing. He will be great in the kick return game, if nothing else, but could be a nice deep option on third downs.

    Bolts Sign Az Hakim

There you go. We called for that to happen when he was first released.

Now we have a legitimate deep threat, speed guy on the receiving corp and a good kick returner. Very nice pick up AJ!

If this move is being made because Floyd's done for the year, that really sucks.

Az Hakim is not someone that will make a very big impact. His best days are behind him. Even at his best, he was more a kick returner than a wideout.

I don't see the Bolts getting much out of this guy.

Well, he certainly got picked up by the right team. I think, if anything else, he's got some skills to help us out. Anyone can suck if they play in detroit...

Its good that we're signing Az Hakin because he's a good return man and is a deep threat with his speed
