Wow it has been since December since I have been on Bolttalk.com

Just a lowly Vikings fan here, I found your site during the Fonoti deal last year and came in to ask from the people who know best. Loved the site and was treated very nicely. I came back a couple times after that to check in on how things were over here. Ironically enough we still dont know what is going on with Fonoti in Vikings land, his entire Viking career may very well consist of 3 or 4 series. It remains to be seen.

Well I am back again. What is everyone in here's thoughts on Leber? I know as a fan you are upset when you loose anyone, I know I am, but objectively what is the story with this guy. Good player just caught in the same position as Merriman who is an absolute beast? Or not talented enough, and on the way out anyway, Merriman just was there to step into his spot?

Just want to hear from the people that have seen this guy play for several years.

Personally I am excited because the kid grew up in South Dakota where I am from, and I am excited to see the homecoming of sorts, but just wanted to get some expert insite from here.

    Thanks.

I like Leber, he is fast and athletic and isnt afraid to make a hit. Comming off the side at the QB on a rush the guy can be a monster. He is a bit undersized, but so are LBs like Donnie Edwards and a few other good names... Ever heard of Zach Thomas?:icon_lick:

    Mon, 13 Mar 2006 06:18:57 -0800

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the NFL changed its accounting rules for contracts signed during its recent labor negotiations, affecting the deal the Seattle Seahawks reached RB Shaun Alexander. The prorating period for signing bonuses grew from four years to five. That change opened $575,000 in cap space for Seattle in 2006. Alexander's contract now counts $5.925 million against the cap this season and $5.7 million in 2007.

Seahawks | More about Hutchinson's offer
    Mon, 13 Mar 2006 06:14:53 -0800

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the offer sheet signed by Seattle Seahawks OG Steve Hutchinson with the Minnesota Vikings reportedly included a $10 million signing bonus, a $6 million roster bonus payable this year and a $585,000 base salary in 2006. That would translate to $8.585 million in salary cap charges this year, a high number but not a prohibitive one. Hutchinson is already counting $6.391 million against Seattle's cap after the Seahawks named him their transition player, which allows them to match offers he receives in free agency. Under those terms, the Seahawks could match the Vikings' offer and still have roughly $16 million in salary cap room, plenty to re-sign their own free agents and pursue others on the market. There were reports, however, that the Vikings' offer might carry a first-year cap charge of $13 million. That would be the figure if Hutchinson's 2006 base salary were $5.85 million instead of $585,000.

The writing was on the wall the moment we drafted merriman, leber was hurt most of training camp so he had NO chance to hold the rookie off. Once merriman was in, leber was done, I wanted him to stay and move inside, but not for the coin you guys paid him. Enjoy him, he is a solid citizen, nice guy, good player, more of a blue collar type, doesn;t get out of position to often, doesn;t have the speed/range of top tier OLB, but he is close, and still young, he got hit by the sophmore slump and never really recovered, I thin with a new home, and a fat contract the dude will step up for you guys.
