    Fargas is a free agent

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 6, 2010 6:41 PM ET
The Oakland Raiders have released running back Justin Fargas.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Raiders made the move, which had been expected, today. Fargas was due a $1.7 million roster bonus.

The 30-year-old Fargas has played his entire seven-year career in Oakland. His best season came in 2007, when he carried 222 times for 1,009 yards.

Fargas joins a crop of free agent running backs that includes Thomas Jones, Willie Parker and LaDainian Tomlinson.

I would take a shot on him to be a platoon guy. Probably nothing more than a 5-6 carry per game guy

I'd be very interested in him, he's a good hard nosed runner with decent speed. Just what we're looking for

He may be 30, but he doesn't have a lot of miles on those legs. I'd take a shot on him.

why not, he may turn out to be a surprise. He has done ok when the Raiders let him carry the ball.

I like Fargas. I think that would be a solid veteran pickup sitting behind whoever we draft. I think he still has some good running ahead of him.

Fargas is the kind of runner who might have some success with our O line. We need a runner that does not think too much and hits the hole he sees with a bang. I'd have a serious look at him were I AJ.

Part of LT's problem was he took too much time to decide where to go and when he finally made his mind up it was too late (in recent yrs ofcourse).

Though Fargas is a product of the zone blocking rush attack of the JOakland faiders, he always has been a tenacious and powerful running back. He could do us some good though I think Smith is looking to the draft to rebuild the running back platoon.
