Oh, wow, so many to choose from.....how can I pick just one? Hadl to Alworth was classic, but then Fouts to just about anyone was a thing of beauty, as is Rivers to Gates.

Nope, can't do it. I love 'em all.

I get it...think Bambi has to be at the top although J.J. was electric for the few years he was played at Jack Murphy

Whelihan and anyone (!), really... :)

    Babe Laufenberg to Jamie Holland?

And, in all seriousness guys, I know we've got some young'uns on here, but Hadl to Alworth is the obvious choice

And to think I was really excited in 2003 when we grabbed him, thought he'd be a fantastic addition.

    Oops

My top pick would probably be Hadl to Alworth since that was the original charger power, but Brees to Gates was an incredible group.

Sorry to break it to you but some of us that didn't get to watch Hadl and Alworth play aren't "young'uns" any more, it's been that long

Fouts to Joiner for me. Unreal combo in that offense.

They were a productive combo - certainly didn't stretch the field like Alworth, Chandler or JJ but both in the HOF.

The AFL had such great receivers in the mid-late 60's...Alworth, Garrison, Sauer, Maynard, Powell (who many are unfamiliar with), Biletnikoff, Wells, Taylor, Burford, and Al Denson

Joiner was my very fav for many years...
a coach on the field, a man of modest physical attribute
who succeeded spectacularly through sheer concentration and will.
Most don't remember that the day Joiner retired
he had more receptions than anyone in the history of the NFL.

Alworth, however, was simply a leaping, ball snagging human highlight reel.
And lucky for the Chargeres, (and Alworth) Hadl had a gift for chucking the long ball

Forgot Charlie was the all-time leader in receptions...nice. Just realized Unitas and Alworth had the same # with Chargers (albeit after Lance left for Dallas)

BTW - just got word the book I'm publishing on the history of tabletop football games will arrive next week. Cool picture history with trivia, player factoids, etc. for guys over 40

Take a look when you get a chance: www.retrofootballgames.com

Rivers to Jackson was sweet. Rivers to Gates is just legend though. I didn't grow up with all the other combos but watching highlight reels they had a lot of weapons. Especially the Fouts period of time.

Whatever, I'm sure guys will take shots at me - Not concerned, I worked 5+ years at compiling and cataloging football games from 1890-1979 and I think the presentation in the book will be entertaining to guys over 40

No but might as well make potential interested folks aware of it..back to the thread subject, I've always been amazed at how effective Rivers has been given his arm strength is very average.

Remember him as a frosh at N.C. State in a bowl against Minnesota, down 21 points and the combo of Rivers to Robinson went off and came back to win - believe it was the Micron PC Bowl (now defunct)
