I disagree with both Siler and Oliver...more so Siler....A lot will depend on what we see with Beckwith. Siler is a hammer in short yardage situations...but he's kind of a one trick pony...and we already have Dobbins. Oliver may be on the bubble if we end up keeping Hart.

Realistically...as we stand now...I think the final 14 spots go to:

CB C. Gordon (too much experience in our system to drop)
CB S. Castille (we were pretty thin last year at CB when Cro was hurt)
    S K. Ellison
    S P. Oliver
    S C. Hart (Veteran presence)
ILB B. Siler (Showed value in goal line situations last year)
OLB A. Applewhite (Probably close to a lock)
    OG S. Mruckowski
WR K. Osgood (too valuable on ST)
WR L. Naanee (coaches seem to like him, solid camp)
WR B. Davis (too big of an investment in the guy. Norv loves him)
RB M. Bennett (Last night showed a glimpse of his value as a reserve...also did well on ST)
    RB G. Johnson
QB C. Whitehurst (I don't think we're dumping him even though I'd be in favor of it)

Hughes, Martin, Tolbert, Nwagbuo, Clark to PS

Do we keep 6 WR? Do we count Osgood as a WR or a specialist? Can we afford to keep Osgood as a specialist anymore...

No way we keep G. Johnson, Bennet and Tolbert... One will have to go!

    Have to have 3 TE's...

My surprise cut will be Whitehurst...

I just listened to the Norv post game clip on the chargers site and it sounds like he still has love for Whitehurst and probably wants to keep him on the roster....I tend to doubt he'll get cut...plus, under the AJ regime, we have historically kept 3 QBs.

I like Tolbert, but unfortunately I think he's out. Another strong game by Benett will cement that.

If we were going to cut Osgood, it would have been in the offseason. I think he's a pretty sure bet to make the roster. He's a specialist...but he's really...really good at what he does....and has made game changing plays the past couple of years.....also a lockerroom leader.....Would be a hard cut to make and not good for the coming year.

    Naanee is NOT a lock.
This makes NO ****ing sense, how is naanee, a guy who has never done anything is a lock, but a 1st round pick is a bubble player?

Anyone who actually thinks naanee is a lock and buster is on the bubble is a moron who doesnt know **** about the NFL

Also, Whitehurst will make the team, no way do we go with only 2 QBs and now its too late to bring in another guy and teach him the offense

    Applewhite over Tucker.

Sorry one good game and being injured Applewhite looks better and is MUCH more versatile. I think they both stay, however if you get rid of one you get rid of the guy who isn't as versatile.

Plus Applewhite looked much better out there during preseason. During TC he got more reps.

yeah i doubt AJ is going to allow tucker to get cut after giving him 15mil last year. Applewhite is nothing more than another Marques Harris

I said they will probably keep both on. English is in more than just for depth.

Tucker has a bigger contract and costs more that is true. The Chargers have cut players with contracts before. Not sure how much Tucker is taking this year or in the next couple of years or his cap hit, so I can't comment on that.

Siler will make it. For a seventh round pick, Beckwith hasn't stood out at all in training camp, and he didn't even play in yesterday's game. If Osgood gets cut, then Siler becomes a must for his special teams ability, and for his upside at the ILB position.

    Easy there Rip

I agree with you, Buster is going to be given more chance than a 5th rounder

TOTALLY agree Whitehurst is the 3rd QB

wow...the passion! easy there tiger...I guess I don't know chit about football.......OK...at the end of the day, I have Buster on the team as per my follow up posts....but you can't say that the coaching staff isn't frustrated with the ongoing injuries and lack of playing time that have derailed Davis. I know it isn't his fault, but it's reality that he has that injury prone label.

As for career comparisons...You could easily argue that Naanee has done more in light of that Davis has barely had more receptions / yardage...and the biggest play between the two was Naanee's reception against the Colts in the playoffs. Legedu was a project coming out of college and wasn't a WR...but he's turned himself into a pretty nice slot guy....and he's stayed healthy.

I think Buster has the potential to be a pretty good receiver...but I just wonder if he will ever be healthy long enough to prove it.

Just so we don't have any hurt feelings....and to remove myself from the "moron" list.....I unbolded Kassim Osgood and Legedu Naanee. I still think both make the team as part of the 13 'bubble' players as does Buster Davis.

That leaves us with a LOT of receivers....but it's a nice problem to have.

Davis, Osgood, and Nannee will all make the team.

There will be some tough cuts at linebacker. Tucker will make it, and Applewhite will probably make it.

Whitehurst will remain on the team.

Youre right, if he doesnt do something, he could get cut, but that doesnt change the fact that people seem to think Naanee is a lock but Buster is on the bubble.

Im sorry, but what has Naanee and his 16 career catches (8 less than Buster) and his 133 yards (100+ less than buster) done to assure himself a spot on the team??

Buster has been hurt and still outproduced naanee, not to mention that he was a AJ Smith 1st rounder (and we know how AJ does with his #1s and how much he values them), and yet you guys think that Naanee is the lock??

Someone REALLY needs to explain this obsession people have with him

It is a valid reason. I am not obsessed with Naanee, nor do I think he is a lock over Davis.

However, Naanee has shown a lot and Davis has been injured just about every year. After the game he was on the list with some minor aches and pains again. Maybe it is nothing. Maybe Davis gets injured again.

The Chargers were high on Parker too, he was cut. Davis gets injured again he is out. 50% chance he does.

I dont see why you think Ellison is a lock but Siler or Oliver arent. Dont get that one at all.
They know what Oliver can do and he is playing FS behind Weddle. Ellison isnt going to be playing FS and frankly to call a 6th round rookie a lock over some that have been here and done well is kinda funny imo.

I think all Buster has to do to make this team is be healthy thru preseason and get some playing time. He is much more talented than Charlie Martin, Banks and even Naanee. Just has to be on the field and yes that is a biggy for him but that is his ONLY obstacle to making this team imo.

Done. Changed Ellison also to "not a lock". I didn't know people were going to have such strong opinions over some of these guys.

I admittedly made the list pretty quickly and I put Ellison as a lock merely because I have a gut feeling based upon what I've been reading from the coaches, etc...and the fact that everyone seems pretty impressed with him. I'm not seeing the same reaction / reports from Oliver who may be wearing out his welcome if he doesn't step it up. Ellison also made his presence known in the pre-season game.

I'm open to all suggestions. Just trying to put together a group list...not necessarily my own.

Cant fault that thinking but they have said some good things about Oliver the past couple seasons too and Norv was praising Waters all the time and yet he got the ax.
However, i dont think Waters got released because of his ability. I dont take anything Acee says seriously but he did say that Waters was a bad guy and those guys dont stay on this team long.

Ellison very well could make the team, i just dont see him in any way being a lock. He is going to be a SS and we have Hart and Gregory there so he may make it as a ST's guy and spot player if he shows some big upside.

I would be kinda shocked if Oliver got cut but you never know. Just thought it was odd to see him and Siler on the bubble and Ellison penciled in as a lock since they have played well when they got the chance to be in there as opposed to some 6th round Rookie.

In a couple of these cases with the final cuts it will come down to how many people we are going to carry at certain positions, particularly at RB, WR and LB and how much is leftover. The Chargers will be able to "hide" a couple of people on the practice squad, but any real emerging stars will be snapped up quickly by other teams. We will probably continue to carry a third QB as we have in the past. By this time next week a few guys will have already cleaned out their lockers.
I wonder how many surprises there will be?

    Go Chargers!

I actually don't think there will be too many surprises...Not sure if Michael Bennett would count as one....but before last game, he wasn't even really thought about. We are just too deep at WR and LB IMO to keep either Martin or Beckwith....both may get snapped up by other teams before making our practice squads.

The guy I most wanted gone from last year's roster is already in Philadelphia.

Mostly agree. Davis is not a lock to get through the exhibish without hurting himself. Hart could be on the bubble. Hard to speculate. There will be a few more injuries at least. Tolbert will have trouble making the squad this year. Liked him early last year. Whitehurst has one or two more chances to prove himself, or we get another guy.

Charlie Whitehurst will be in (see K.Acee's video today)
I see a need for Michael Bennet as RB too
If Charly Martin gets a chance, Nanee or Davis will be cut
Have you talked about Tyronne Green ? He could be dependable. at last I see a decision between
    Antwan Applewhite and Paul Oliver.
...and we have still 3 preseason games with a possibility
someone is hurt. That could chance some spots.
