So three UDFA's made it. Davis, Oliver and Palepoi? That's pretty cool if you ask me. Kind of bummed about Law.

I don't think both Oliver and Grice are long for the team, one is going to have to go when we need another WR or OL. I doubt Palepoi sticks around very long as well.

One of the running backs (Oliver or Grice) or Davis will be released to make room for a DT

Can't believe we're carrying 5 RBs on the roster instead of keeping Law. I don't see us being able to stash him on the practice squad.

Looking at our list of cuts, it's clear that this team is much deeper than last year. Most of our final cuts would have made the team last year.

Chargers set 53-man roster, keep five RBs
Branden Oliver and Marion Grice both part of initial team
    By Michael Gehlken
    12:47 P.M. AUG. 30, 2014

The Chargers' 53-man roster is complete.

It is, of course, anything but final.

The team's roster includes five running backs, as undrafted rookie Branden Oliver and sixth-round pick Marion Grice were both retained. San Diego plans to monitor waiver cuts elsewhere in the league, particularly on the defensive line for possible moves to upgrade its depth.

Oliver was one of three undrafted rookies to make the initial 53.

Defensive end Tenny Palepoi and cornerback Chris Davis are the others.

Wide receiver Vincent Brown (calf) was waived-injured. The other 22 released were without the injury designation.

On defense, linebacker Victor Aiyewa, defensive tackle Chas Alecxih, cornerback Crezdon Butler, safety Alden Darby, cornerback Greg Ducre, linebacker Thomas Keiser, defensive end Joe Kruger, outside linebacker Cordarro Law, safety Adrian Phillips, linebacker Colton Underwood, and defensive end Doug Worthington were cut.

On offense, wide receiver Torrence Allen, tight end Michael Flacco, tackle Michael Harris, wide receiver Javontee Herndon, wide receiver Tevin Reese, tackle Jeremiah Sirles, quarterback Brad Sorensen, guard Craig Watts, tackle Kenny Wiggins, and center Khalil Wilkes were waived.

    Harris is a notable cut.

He was notified Friday — or at least, under the impression he'd been notified — that he won the Chargers' swing tackle job, sources said. There was an apparent miscommunication or change of heart. Smith, not Harris, stands as the reserve to starting tackles King Dunlap and D.J. Fluker.

I look at the Law cut and I think it says the coaching staff are confident that Freeney, Ingram, Attaochu, and Johnson are going to have solid outings.

That and we could still bring in a recent cut with more upside.

I think Sorenson makes the PS as a mock scramble QB to practice against in prep for all the rushing qbs we face this year.

I would pay to watch Sorenson play the role as a scramble qb for the practice squad

Since the FO has already decided to retain more OLBs than ILBs, then I don't thin we have a need for a DE / OLB type, be it Michael Sam or any other waived rookie!

If we had a need, I personally wouldn't have an issue with Michael Sam, although with the media circus which is constantly fishing for sensationalized stories around him, makes his presence a football distraction. In any case, I believe that Fisher and the Rams will have Michael Sam back on their PS...

Not the last we'll see of Keiser. I know this because I am from the future.
On an unrelated note, I had to change my siggy. Adios Crez.
Green is going to earn his green and turn some heads around the league this season.

Blitzy, we just cut two LBs that are superior to Mike Sam - I think you are spot on, Rams PS.

I have to imagine that when the team funds a better nose tackle option and defensive end prospect this roster will change quickly

I sort of figured the Bolts would lean heavy on the L-Backers not really having a top tier NT, keeping five running backs threw me.

How is the PS squad worked after the official start of the season? Let's say, the Bolt's have a chance to pick up an above average NT. Would the team be able to pick any player on the team eligible for the PS and send him down without having to be placed on waivers?

I don't see how he would fit here. To me, his pre-season performance showed him to be a pretty average athlete, definitely not quick enough or explosive enough to be a 3-4 OLB, and I've never thought he had the size or strength to be a 3-4 DE.

If he does make it on another team, it'll most likely be a 4-3 team who have a need for a situational pass rushing DE, but good luck to him though, think he's earned a shot somwehere else, just a casualty of STL having such a good D-Line that he couldn't make it there.

On subject of our team, I wouldn't mind a look at Stephen Hill, his speed alone makes him a little bit intriguing. Definitely should be looking for a DT though, if there is one out there they like.

Also, a little shocked about Mike harris, thought he'd win the roster spot for sure.

I would take Champ Bailey though, as our 4th or 5th CB, if he'll sign for what he's worth now and not what he was. We can't match him up against legit #1s, but he could still hang with guys like Dwayne Bowe, Eric Decker, Wes Welker, Steve Smith, Denarius Moore etc... more so than Marshall or Davis.
