More than two months until training camp. Almost four months until the season opener.

But, still, there were some interesting things to watch as the Chargers began their offseason coaching sessions -- or organized team activities -- this morning.

This was the first of 14 sessions, and here are some observations:

Buster Davis had his sleeves rolled up, revealing much bulkier arms. This will only matter if a bigger Davis means a healthier Davis.

Malcom Floyd can still catch. Missing minicamp didn't hurt those incredible hands. He made great grab after great grab.

Brandyn Dombrowski played left tackle with the first team -- as Marcus McNeill and L.J. Shelton both worked on the side rehabbing. Dombrowski, a guard at San Diego State, played tackle only briefly in one game in college but practiced there a lot last season.

Kevin Burnett started the day working with the third team in the base defense and the first team in sub packages. He did take some reps with the first team in base late in the practice. One of the position battles this summer will be for playing time opposite Stephen Cooper at inside linebacker. Burnett was signed as a free agent for his ability in coverage, but he could be the every-down guy.

LaDainian Tomlinson was among only a handful of notables to miss the first day. He is attending to a family issue in Texas. Shawne Merriman, Kassim Osgood and Vincent Jackson were also absent.

Antonio Cromartie and Antoine Cason both had brilliant interceptions in team drills.

Jacques Cesaire worked with the first team at right defensive end; Ryon Bingham and Ian Scott worked at nose with the ones. The line is somewhat in flux with Jamal Williams still rehabbing and fourth-round pick Vaughn Martin learning.
