Here's why: Jim Schwartz was/is the defensive mastermind who made the Titans what they were.
    Proof?
    Fisher:
46-56 without Schwartz on staff (0-0 in playoffs)
96-64 with Schwartz on staff (5-6 in playoffs)--Schwartz was a defensive assistant 1999-2000 and the defensive coordinator from 2001-2008--the record above includes both. With Schwartz as DC the Titans were 70-58 (2-4 in playoffs).

Those Titans teams were built on defense. Schwartz helped run that defense. As soon as he left, it all went to hell: from 13-3 (234 points against) Schwartz's last year there, to 8-8 (402 PA), then 6-10 (339 PA). The defense wasn't the only reason things went south for the Titans, but it was a big reason.

Fisher may be viewed as a 'tough coach.' But I'm guessing Schwartz had more to do with the Titans toughness than Fisher.

We hire him, and we can expect 46-56 type mediocrity.

I would've just settled for the simple answer that Fisher's a scumbag who, like Schwartz, encourages "beyond chippy" play from his players then flatly denies doing so to the press (hate Rex Ryan as much as I do, he at least has the stones to own up to pushing stuff like this). I want a tough, aggressive team, but I don't want a team of cheaters out taking cheap shots at the other team - we've already got the Raiders for that.

I'll never forgive that dude for sending his players out after Shawne Merriman's knee. Fisher is a douche, straight up, and even if we call him a good coach (which i'm not even saying), you still have to question if that is the type of person you want running your organisation.

Fisher is a joke. The Sports media likes him, but show me what he's done?

Yeah, but that's actually one of the few redeeming qualities he has. He's a tin of good mustache wax and a few weeks growth away from having a wicked Uncle Creepy stache. And that's BA.

He also sported a mullet. Dude's a jerk and I'm pretty sure his titans never managed to beat the chargers. He's just an all around dick and I don't want him being any part of the chargers.

To be fair Fisher was a deciple of Buddy Ryan and a defensive coordinator before he got promoted to HC, he knows a thing or two about defense himself. He's got the same defensive brain as Schwartz or Ron Rivera, but like most coaches his teams are steered by the success of the QB, and in the end he was stuck with Vince Young and Kerry Collins.

I understand the concern, but If we can get a good OC I think Fisher will be a good choice, he'd definitly get the nasty back in this pussy *** defense.

He was stuck with Young and Collins when Schwartz was there too. And they were a helluva lot better with Schwartz on staff. He went a lot of years in Houston/Tennessee without winning a thing. I don't see the value in the guy. He looks mean on the sideline. That's it. If the Bolts can't do better than Fisher, they're screwed.

Just remember correlation doesn't always equal causation.

BTW last year he started the season 5-2 before Young and Britt got hurt, and finished the season with Rusty Smith under center throwing to the likes of Bo Scaife and Nate Washington.

Sure, correlation doesn't always equal causation. But sometimes correlation does suggest causation. So you ask yourself 'Do I believe the data?' And when that many years of data suggest that Fisher didn't get a lot done without Schwartz and got it done with him, it makes me a believer, especially if you approach it a priori with question 'Schwartz is a defensive mastermind, so how much did he have to do with the Titans success?'

It's like the Chargers. One person can choose to believe that AJ will actually have a good draft this year. But the past 4 years inform might inform others a bit differently. Just a matter of whether you trust the data to be relevant to the question at hand. Fisher has a losing record over many years without Schwartz. He has a winning record with playoff appearances over many years with Schwartz. You can cite exceptions such as injuries, much the same as some Chargers fans will excuse AJ and Norv for the same reason. I don't buy it, for the Chargers or for Fisher.

So you believed less data on Norv but disagree with more data on Fisher. Gotcha.

Who out there is better than Jeff Fisher right now?

Jon Gruden? Won a Super Bowl with Dungy's team, then missed the playoffs 4 of the next 5 years, he has a knack for fast starting teams who tank the rest of the season, and now he hasn't coached in 3 years.
Bill Cowher? The Marty clone, consistant playoff failure until he finally won the most controversial Super Bowl ever. And like Jim Schwartz, how much credit do you give Dick Lebeau's freakishly awesome and consistant defense?
    Andy Reid? Eh. Norv Clone
    Tony Dungy? Retired for good.
Tom Coghlin? Total dick, No way I could stand seeing that prick's face on our sideline, and same as Gruden he starts fast and finish slow.
Rob Ryan? Maybe, but a rookie HC?

As long as we still have Rivers we can't give up on winning a Super Bowl in the next 3 or 4 years, and it seems an awful risky move to me to hand this team over to a hot shot coordinator with an 0-0 record as a head coach. Although I would have hired Harbaugh (as I said when he was available), and I would probably take a look at Chuck Pagano, I wouldn't expect a rookie HC to win right away.

I'm not saying that I want Fisher but I's much rather the Chargers be known as a tough borderline dirty team than soft

I want dirty. I want teams to complain about us after the game. Because right now they're just laughing.
