The San Diego Chargers have one of the league's best owners, according to a survey released this week.
Forbes magazine listed Alex Spanos at No. 7 on its list of top owners, which was based on a franchise's recent winning percentage and financial growth.
In the past five years, the average NFL franchise has grown 8 percent in value. Under the Spanos family, the Chargers have seen an 11-percent increase with a 69-percent winning percentage, according to Forbes.
Spanos is no longer involved in the day-to-day operations of the team, as the responsibility has been passed down the family tree.
Son Dean is team president and chairman of the board; son Michael is executive president. Of Spanos' grandsons, A.G. is executive vice president and chief executive officer, and John is director of college scouting.
Boosted by a new stadium and a 2007 Super Bowl championship, New York Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch topped the list, and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft took second.
Forbes, using the same criteria, also slotted the NFL's 10 worst.
William Clay Ford Sr. of the Detroit Lions earned the final distinction; his franchise was the NFL's only to lose value in 2010.
The full rankings can be viewed on the Forbes website.
