Does AJ use the franchise tag on Dielman? I would hate to see him go just as the Oline seems to be coming together.

    NO EFFING WAY !!!

Dielman is not worthy of a franchise tag which would include Offensive tackles wages when figured.....fuc that noise....no effing way......

No its like 10 mil for a QB not for a LG. But still we need to sign this fool somehow. Give him what he wants and lets not create more problems then we already have.

I guess I just don't want to lose continuity where we obviously have gained so much. It might be worth eating the dollars for the year and then try to sign him to a long term contract in the process.

Remember what Steve Hutchison got and the bigass left tackle at Seattle for starters for that Top 5 average ???.......I think it is around $8 million or so for a lineman Franchise tagged.

There is just no way the Chargers throw that kind of jack at a lineman. AJ models his *** after what the Patriots Pioli is doing and that shrewed bastard has the O-Line salary averaging $2 mil from tackle to tackle during their Super Bowl run.

AJ will not over spend for a lineman.

How much does Oben have in the tank? Plus with that foot thing, he could be an injury waiting to happen.

Oben is WAY WAY better than Olivea at RT.

Olivea is a piece of **** as a right tackle and is a liability. I am not sure he can even make it as a guard because he is too slow and does not bring the heated meat we need.

It's tough to franchis tag guards, because for some stupid reason they don't differentiate positions on the O-line. All offensive linemen follow the same tag rules and salary structure. Dielman isn't going to get as much on the open market as we'd have to pay to tag him.

Dielman's worth about $4.5 million to $5 million per season.

If someone wants to overpay him and offer him $6 million per, he'll be somewhere else next year.

The franchise tag for any offensive lineman is 9.5 million this year.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2759910

I'm pretty sure that's it's not happening for Dielman, unless the Chargers brass is certain they can sign Dielman to a contract which would negate the franchise tag price. Although, they'd have to engineer a contract that figures at least 9.5 mil of that is guaranteed. If I were Dielman though, I'd take the 9.5 mil and wait another year. Although, in the world of football, uncertainty is something that they dislike. They'd rather have a long term deal done.

I knew it was up there but $9.5 million for one year for a fat boy is just ridiculous.

Maybe an Ogden/Jones/Roaf in their prime.... maybe soon to be Big Mac?

Either way, 9.5 even for them is a TON OF DOUGH.

I hope he does tag his *** if a deal can't be reached. Its not my money. plus, is 10 mill really too much to pay for a Superbowl?

Dielman is better than anybody in the draft so if we dont keep him, we are essentially downgrading the o-line. I dont think we can afford to do that in Norv's first year. pay him this year, lets go win a superbowl, and then see what happens after.

It would cost the Chargers more than the 10 million. AJ has worked hard to get players to buy into the team concept "play for a championship team for a fair contract", and it's working, if you make an exception for one player the others might be unhappy or demand the same when their time is up

The Chargers aren't gripping over the money. It's about the salary cap.

No lineman is worth $10 million for one year.

Paying that is the sign of a GM who is irresponsible to the fiscal management of the team and the salary cap.

It is not so much the salary cap as it is the disproportionate amount of money throw at one spot on the line.

We have money to spend and could pay Dielman because we are $21million or so under the cap this year so cash or cap is not compromised.

The most I'm hoping for is that he is a solid backup for us.

    Oben 6'-4" @ 305

    Olivea 6'-4" @ 312

Oben has spectacular technique and a wing span. Not to mention dude is ripped. Age and injury is an issue.

Olivea does not have the wing span nor the technique. The extra 7 lbs is fat, not muscle.

Make the flight sometime to SD during Training Camp. Watch these guys work out, and then you can get a feel for what they can do. I remember when the whole Brees/Rivers thing came up. I had mentioned Rivers was a quicker release, more accurate and stronger than Drew. This point was debated until Philip played. I saw it at camp.

Trust me when I say Oben is alot stronger and faster than Olivea.

By the way, Turner is almost as good as LT. Dude is ellusive.

If Dielman goes, watch Oben step up big time next year. I think the dude has pride and will be looking to contribute. The guy is all class and a pro.
