Thing is... with the Chiefs paying out his signing bonus, I'd pick up the guy off waivers (they still exist till free agency officially opens in... I think... 2 days?). We can afford $4 million this season - particularly if you consider that we release Garay and that's Winston + $1 million cap space (and his salary decreases annually past that). Release Clary and we gain another $600K. And we've managed to substantially upgrade our starting RT position for the next 3 years while gaining $1.4 million in cap space.

The Jake Long's of this world aren't savvy investments. However, sinking money into a "less than Clary" (long-term) contract for a player who is substantially better than Clary is... is a smart move.

Wasn't Acee the one defending Clary based upon PFF numbers on several occasions?

Acee has routinely defended Clary, almost as much as AJ and Norv did. Don't care that they don't see what every fan does.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the Eagles and Texans were the first two teams to reach out to free agent RT Eric Winston.

    Eagles to release Asomugha...

Could we afford him? Should we pursue him?

I seriously doubt we'll go after any big name FAs.

He's done. The Eagles tried using him in press-man, off-man, zone, you name it last season and he was a God awful liability in every instance. His level of play has fallen off a cliff.

Reports were saying Asomugha chose to alienate himself from teammates, choosing to eat lunch in his car instead of eating with the players. I doubt it but it could be possible he just wasn't happy there which may have affected his level of play

Well is 7:00, time to eat breakfast and then go to work and ask myself the same question I do every morning....why is Jeromey Clary still a Charger today?

Free agent OG Louis Vasquez's agent believes the Chargers have "genuine" interest in re-signing his client, but says he "wants to test the market."
"The Chargers had a chance to get something done last November," Vasquez's rep ominously said. "Now, Lou wants to explore every option." Vasquez's rep also confirmed he "definitely" expects the Colts to show interest. The Union-Tribune San Diego reported last week the Colts were going to "make a run" at Vasquez. His market should be robust.

At this point I say we go all in on Levitre

I'd also seriously look at chad rhinehart and (why is he not being talked about?!) Donald Thomas from New England to replace green and Vasquez

I agree on Rhinehart, Thomas I'd only consider if he doesn't try to over price himself, what concerns me about him was he was on the Patriots for 4 years, was about to get cut (either he wasn't impressing or they weren't paying attention). Finally gets a chance to play and does really well.

Main reason I really like Levitre is his ability to play all 3 positions

and because of that Levitre will get more money than Vasquez. Which is why we shouldn't go all in on Levitre, and try to go all in on Vasquez and re-sign our own. I have a feeling he will be gone. Unfortunate.

But, we need interior line help. I like Donald Thomas as well, but I also like Chad Rinehart. Both should come at no more than $2M a year. Brandon Moore I wouldn't mind either, just as long as he doesn't sack Rivers.

But I think we should re-sign Vasquez, you look at guys like Thomas and Rinehart, who are good at what they do, but who are we really protecting Rivers with? The interior line play was horrid at times, and especially on the left side. We need 2 strong guards, and a strong tackle to protect Rivers' blindside. Right tackle is a mystery right now, I want Clary out but we need a suitable replacement.

If the difference in numbers for Levitre and Vasquez is only 1 million I'd go with the former. Vasquez's agent saying he will test the market suggests he won't be back. Unless Telesco gets something done tonight, Odds are we may be looking else where. Im guessing he'll be a Colt come Sunday.

The end of the world could happen today and Clary would still be out there trying to play RT. I have a terrible feeling this guy will manage to remain a starter.

    Thank you Rotoworld

The Chargers could save $2.3 million in salary cap space by releasing RT Jeromey Clary.
It's surprising they haven't done it yet. Long a turnstile in pass protection, 29-year-old Clary should no longer be on scholarship in San Diego with old GM A.J. Smith run out of town. Clary's 2013 base salary is $4 million

Would anyone here be down for this? I know he's 33 now and not what he once was, but he can still lay the wood. Perhaps for a year a SS rotation of Wilson and Jammer if we could get both for cheap would work? Maybe they wouldn't be so great in coverage, but they'd lay out some big hits for sure lol.

I wouldn't mind Chris Gamble if he'd come cheap either, always liked him.

I'd be down for Ardian Wilson as a one year rental until Taylor gets up to speed

Atari Bigby released. Chargers will not bring back Antoine Cason. Quentin Jammer likely gone ... Changes in secondary will rival those on OL

I don't know how much of that is down to him not being happy in that team though. I certainly don't think he's done, I think that is a bit harsh, I think he'd still be a starter on this team, and an upgrade over either Cason or Jammer.

Chris Gamble may be a better option though if we were going hard after a free agent CB and trying to get a bargain if that was at all possible.

Wow, this is actually pretty big news considering our lack of player movement so far. Perhaps Cason priced himself out of a return, as the team would likely not want to pay him that much due to inconsistency. I think Bigby was only a 1 year thing anyway, kind of a stopgap. I'm sad about Jammer because he's been here a long time, I'd hoped he could come back cheap and be a backup CB or try playing SS.

Chargers release Atari Bigby. Tom Telesco says he likes Brandon Taylor, Darrell Stuckey. Adds: "We'll add some competition for those guys."

With regard to Asomugha, after what we just went through with Gaither, how much stock do you want to put in a guy who - if the reports are assumed correct - dogged it because he wasn't happy?
