Agent: Teams started calling Sunday night
    Posted on: July 25, 2011 10:43 am

So this will not stun you but some teams began calling agents about their free agent clients on Sunday night, one agent tells me.

Once it seemed a collective bargaining agreement was close to being done, teams started calling agents around the sport, and began talking deals. No one was wasting time.

My agent source said teams are in full negotating mode now with agents. He believes -- shocker -- numerous deals are already done.

The agent also said something interesting that teams were informing agents which of their clients was going to get cut so teams stayed under the salary cap.

Just the beginning of what's going to be a wild week.

    From Kevin Acee's tweets........

That's a bunch of players, lets hope there's a good number that they didn't want to keep anyway.

Lot of depth guys on that list....... few that we can't live without. I'm guessing neither long snapper will be back. ;)

    The rest can whistle.

Yea Binn is back amazingly. SO 2 of those FA LSers are already good as gone so technicaly we only have 20 FAs and of that 8 can try to find new places of employment. Sorry Sproles ur a casualty of franchise tag funkering. At least I have yet to hear anything about a F Tag in this new CBA. And what the deal on the contract length on NFL it said 4 now and 1-3 for the 06 extension one. So im figuring 4 years flat is for first round picks?? Or are all rookie contracts now 4 year deals at a set amount?

Even Better. Im loving everything about this CBA.

Great. Now that our worst linemen has been resigned, we can continue to see a line that can't run block and we can see Rivers among the league leaders in number of times being sacked

AJ Smith just gives me another reason to hate him

They were 21st in sacks given up. Not great, but not among the worst either (unless you meant the worst half, or the worst in the middle third).

    He's an average RT imo.

But I agree that AJ Smith will never win a Super Bowl as GM.

I couldn't care less "Whats the way to do it". Fact is, Rivers got trashed last year, and Clary was a HUGE reason for that. Same goes fro our terrible running game the last few years, Clary is a HUGE reason for that.

Rivers also likes to hold onto the ball to the last second to get a reception...... he's not afraid of taking hits. The Chargers also like to throw the deep ball, which takes time to develop. We don't exactly dink and dunk around here. ;)

I would rather have Marc Colombo who would come cheaper, and be a stop gap until we can find a replacement through the draft

When It Comes to Holding the Ball, Joe Flacco Tops Ben Roethlisberger

Read that and tell me again how it is because he holds onto the ball too long. 25 of his 38 times being sacked, happened in less than 3 seconds. That is one of the highest percentages of quick sacks in the entire league

Short of the first year... which I'm still trying to understand all the financial parameters of the new CBA (but it looks like the salary floor responsibility is 95% of the cap for each individual team and 99% of the amount that goes to make up the cap committed to players)... this really isn't that bad of a contract. It's backup money. Kind of gives a bit of an indication what the team feels Clary is worth.

He makes $8.5M (40% of the contract) in the first year then is playing on an average of less than half that per season following. Compared to McNiell's $10M/season that's pennies.

As Bluey and a couple others have pointed out... we don't have another viable starter on the roster right now. At best we're left being able to hope for the open competition between Dombrowski and Clary for RT that we were promised going into last offseason before MM held out and forced Dombo into the emergency-LT spot for camp, the preseason, and part of the reg season.

Flacco being tops isn't news to me....... he and Ben are the biggest offenders, no question. I didn't need stats to figure that out. ;)

As far as Rivers goes, that shows there have been breakdowns in assignments or whiffs too often. Unfortunately, that stat doesn't tell you who was responsible for those mistakes. You may assume that Clary was chiefly to blame, but obviously the coaches and front office feel differently.

I saw plenty of breakdowns in the middle and left side last season. It seems the blame can be spread around. Vasquez had a down year as well. He frankly looked better as a rookie. Line Dielman up next to Clary, and he'll look a lot better.

The coaches and front office also thought Buster and English would be good, and that Olivea, Tucker, and Castillo would live up to their contracts, so it is pretty much meaningless.

Vasques was terrible, but Clary looks bad no matter who plays next to him. He looked bad next to Goff, he looks bad next to Vasquez,, and everyone else he has played with. He sucks, plain and simple
