Green Bay, by way of CBSHD

The Chargers hit the Bible belt last Sunday,
Skybox meets Lunchbox- with semi predictable results. Brett Favre led yet another 4th quarter comeback, his 38th career- and the New Look Chargers lost 31-24, but showed some promise along the way. Norv may yet fix this mess he inherited... But... Did we really need a new look? 14-2 speaks for itself. Said LaDainian Tomlinson afterwards, "It's still a long season," said Tomlinson, who carried 22 times for 62 yards. "But I mean, right now we just -- I don't know. I'm lost."

    We all are LT...

Beautiful day in Wisconsin, if it wasn't for the -10 degree winters, I might move there tomorrow...

San Diego came out to prove that they were not the biggest bust of the last 5 years, and scored promptly on Phillip Rivers beautiful 24 yard pass to Vincent Jackson, just like they planned it.

7-0 Chargers- that's more like it...

Green Bay answered with a FG from Mason Crosby, culminating a drive where it was plain to see that Favre was going to have plenty of time to throw.

7-3 Chargers- end of the first.

Phillip Rivers came to play, completing his first 15 passes in a row. PR threw for 306 total yards and 3 touchdowns, a solid afternoon of work.

Donald Driver scored the Packs first TD of the day, a nifty catch over the shoulder in the corner of the end zone. Favre put that one right where it had to be.

10-7 Packers- we got us a ballgame!

Not for long, Bubba Franks caught yet another perfect Favre pass in the end zone, capping an 80 yard drive right through the D. Something is missing, namely DONNIE EDWARDS."  We didn't need Donnie. Did we...

    17-7 Packers- #$%!@#

Rivers wasted no time on the next drive, with Craig Buster Davis making his first TD catch for 9 yards. San Diego looked like a championship team on the drive, a look that we need to hang on to. An 80 yard drive.

17-14 GB- Halftime- hey, all I wanted was not to be the stinkiest team in the league, and we avoided that this week...

San Diego took the lead in the #rd Quarter, with LT finally getting in the end zone on a 21 yard swing pass from Rivers. Do that again lads...

    21-17 Chargers. Not enough...
The rest of the 3rd and most of the 4th quarter was Defense- both teams hanging on to what advantages they had. Good football until...

I was thinking, "If the Defense can hold..." Greg Jennings on the slant for 57 yards- 'never mind"- Brett Favre threw his 420th TD pass, tying Dan Marino, and giving the Packers the lead again at 24-21. Jubilation in the stands at GB, they should have a ticker tape parade when we come to town... i think the last time we won there was 1984...

    24-21 pack... still time

Rivers tried his best, but was picked off at the SD 40 with 1:22 left in the ballgame, and the Packers cashed in the points with a short TD run.

    31-21 Packers- oh well...

San Diego actually managed to make everyone sweat for the win, getting a late FG and trying an unsuccessful onside kick

Final score GB 31 SD 24

Said Mr. Favre about his record tying performance "I could care less about the record, everybody's congratulating me, but I told them it doesn't mean anything if we don't win the game." A bottom line kind of guy, no shame in losing to BF. Said Norv-"My expectations, the expectations of our players were to come in and win, we didn't get that done." Also a bottom line kind of statement. Norv, you have until week 10, if it isn't fixed by then, the penalties and blown coverage's, I am going to go off.

    In retrospect...
Lambeau Field represents everything still missing from the Bolts and the Q- A sense of permanence, tradition and the knowledge the Packers will still be there tomorrow. The Chargers office wags make me feel like I am staying at a luxury hotel I can't afford anymore. The Packers are owned by the city, imagine that, Charger fans. The Chargers have done a better job of connecting with their past, but until Dan Fouts is team president, It will always be the Spanos show. I say we pool our resources, and buy these guys out- then it really will be the SAN DIEGO Chargers, not the san diego CHARGERS..." "  Dare to dream

Next up, a MUST WIN game at the Q against KC- be there and BE LOUD.
