    Gates making great strides-

I expect Gates to be 100% ready for Carolina.

He better be, 'cause I'll be there!

The Chargers' All-Pro tight end is off the Physically Unable to Perform list  and worked individual drills in Tuesday afternoon's practice. He is not working team drills and likely will slowly be worked back.

Gates had surgery on his left big toe in February and had not practiced with the team this training camp. He had worked hard on the side, and recently began running routes.
The decision for him to practice this soon would seem a clear indication Gates will play in the Sept. 7 season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

My Boy is off the PUP! Gates could be ready for the opener...

    Unbelievably good news. Ridiculously good.

If Gates is truly 100%, he will elevate this offense from great to ludicrous. :D

I'm tempering my enthusiasm until he comes back and can show he's fully healthy but this is outstanding news. So our big three will be ready to go for Carolina

now if only Hardwick can make some improvement

I would 100% agree with you, however, by them taking him off the PUP list and letting him practice, that means they can NOT put him back on the PUP list and free his roster spot for the first 6 games.

That means they must be VERY confident that he will be 100% well before the sixth game. Even if he isn't ready for Carolina, he WILL be ready for the patsies.

    :abq1:

EDIT: Looks like there was mention of this in the other Gates thread. If thy wish is to merge, thy wish be done.

Its great to hear Gates is back. I also read that Castillo is back on the practice field. It would be nice to see im play a full season sice we just gave him the bank.

...Unless you're New England! There you can practice players on the IR, pretty much do whatever it takes to bend the rules (AKA outright cheat) in your favor.

He won't be playing at Carolina.

However, he will suit up for the season opener at home versus Carolina. How much he actually plays is Norv's decision.

Absolutely. Not @ Carolina because it's home game but Gates needs to get installed in this offense right away. Norv will put him out there and just remember that this is Antonio Gates we're talking about. He can easily lead in receptions and lead them to a win. That said, Gates will probably play a little less than usual because he even admits he loses a step when the foot gets sore. Turner probably doesn't want him out there limping and grimacing every time he takes a step. That doesn't help anyone.

Gates will play when he & the coaches feel that he's fully healthy. Until then, we will still win w/o him.

Gates is just working out the normal post surgery and rehab stiffness. That's what I thought a couple weeks ago, and he's running full bore now with two more weeks of working out at full speed. Stiff and sore is different than if he were complaining of pain. One day soon, he'll go out and when he's done, there will be nothing but the normal fatigue. The one bad sign would be a change in his stride, but by all accounts his stride is normal. If he wasn't healthy it wouldn't be. All that's left is to work out a few kinks.
