SAN DIEGO ---- Wednesday looked much like Monday for Antonio Gates. The Chargers' injured All-Pro tight end was hobbling around, his ailing right foot encased in a walking cast. Gates speculated Monday, one day after getting hurt against the Buffalo Bills, that he would test his foot on Wednesday.

But Wednesday came and went, and Gates' seemed no closer to playing on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

"I think it's imperative I stay off of it right now and continue to get rest,'' said Gates, the team's leading receiver with 56 catches, 784 yards and seven touchdowns. "You don't want to try and test it and take a step backward. I want to continue to rest it and get treatment on it and sometime later on the week I will see how it feels.''</blockquote>
