LANDOVER, Md. ---- Earnest Byner, a Washington Redskins assistant coach and former running back for Marty Schottenheimer, made a postgame visit to the Chargers' locker room Sunday.

He slid up next to Antonio Gates, wearing a hearty grin.

"You were limping around all day,'' Byner said. "But I didn't see no limp on that (last) pass.''

Gates, the Chargers' All-Pro tight end, has had better days. He was playing with a mending sprained foot, which kept him from being 100 percent. But it didn't keep him from helping the Chargers to their fourth straight victory.</blockquote>
