I'm getting part of this second handed though I did listen to part of the interview today. The general impression I got was both
    1. He and the Chargers thought they could just show up and beat the Vikings
    2. He was trying way too hard to pimp himself as a great SS
    3. He tried to cover his tracks on 1&2 later in the interview.

    Anyone else listen to this?

Arena scrub with a fan club says what? :icon_rofl:

At least he played better than McCree.

How long until Weddle replaces him? Too bad we couldn't grab another safety and replace McCree as well.

Really? Are you sure? I think you might be a bit off base here.

#1 does, #2 shows self absorbed opinion
And while I'm inclined to believe you, you'd think having the wrong flavor of Gatorade would show a poorly coached team

If he and the Chargers thought they could just show up and beat the Vikings... that's on the coach.

Example: Remember in the 94 AFC Championship when the Steelers guaranteed that the Chargers would not score a single point against them? They took the Chargers so lightly that the used that time to practice for their "Super Bowl Rap" video.

    Well, that's ALL on Cower.
He should have smashed the Super Bowl rap video in front of the entire team in the locker room and said "If I hear the words 'Super Bowl' or 'Rap' from any of you, you're sitting out for the remainder of the season!!! Do this stupid video during the off season!!"

I meant that last post as a joke, i agree whole heartedly and that alone is sufficient reason to fire Cottrell and Norv on the spot

How many of these losses will it take for them to realize they won't win by just showing up. Hopefully the Vikings loss and the total embarrassment they suffered was enough to show them teams aren't going to roll over for you.

Yes. I realized the humor and the importance of the right flavored Gatorade!! :icon_mrgreen:

I just thought I'd add an extra 02.

It obvious that all this talk about "coaches don't need to motivate" is untrue. That's what Seau would say in defense of Riley and we all know how that turned out!!!

Players thinking they can win is a sign of a terribly coached team? :icon_huh:

Not that I'm defending Norv here or anything, but I don't follow how that's one of the traits.

reading through subsequent replies, does "thought he can show up and beat the Vikings" really mean "thought they can show up and waltz all over the Vikings"?

Nothing wrong with thinking you can win...I kinda expect that.

Thinking the opponent will be a pushover, on the other hand, is a different story.

Agree completely. No coach should allow such an attitude to take root at any point in the season. Not even Bilicheck is doing that. The second point shows a lack of discipline on the team. It's showing up in Rivers' lack of progress, Harts' drivel in the interview and in the performance of the OL so far this year.

Thinking you can win is a sign of a well coached team.
Thinking "all you have to do is show up" is a sign of a terribly coached team.

    HUGE Difference!!!!!

I think he meant that players thinking that they just need to show up and they'll win is a sign of a terribly coached team. i.e. they were not prepared or motivated.

    Sneaky nothing.
    You asked and I answered.

Two other thing you may want to take note of...
a.) Marty doesn't coach the Chargers.
b.) Weddle was never coached under Marty.

That's not the point I was trying to get across.
I don't believe anybody here is happy with our new coach.

I just think Shammy's question was easily answered.

Norv isn't the problem. THe problem is the o-line blocking and Rivers having trouble right now with throwing the ball.

The bigger problem is with the defense. Cottrell has our defense like a sieve right now. From what i'm seeing it looks like he's not desquising plays very well. And our pass rush is nill. Opposing offenses have our pass rush figured out because they aren't disquising what they're doing.

Watch teams that defenses are doing well. THe front d-line and linebackers are moving around before the snap. OUr front d-7 is usually in a set formation and o-lines are organizing blocking schemes to block them.
