RVING, Texas - The Cowboys finally kick off their 2005 season this Sunday at 3:15 p.m. (CDT), traveling west to take on the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. San Diego, 2-2 this preseason, won the AFC West with a 12-4 record last season, though its campaign came to a staggering halt with a 20-17 overtime, home loss to the New York Jets in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

    What's Up?

There was little wonder why San Diego emerged as one of the league's sleeper teams when analyzing its style of play last season, which specialized in turnovers and ball-control offense. The Chargers, who were backed by the league's third-best turnover margin (plus-15), committed few mistakes offensively and pressured opposing quarterbacks into making poor throws, picking off 23 passes last season. Led by the improved play of quarterback Drew Brees, who posted the league's third-highest passer rating (104.8) and tossed only seven interceptions, the Chargers were able to mix in a potent passing attack with their ball-control running game to score 55 touchdowns while only surrendering 36 scores.
