If our defense does not man up and start playing then we will not win the west, we will not make the playoffs and we will not even sniff the superbowl.

30th D in the league. Embarrassing to say the least!

We can win, but only if the defense remembers how to play with some fire in their belly. If not, the Rivers and the O will score a ton of points only to see the D give it right back.

we started pathetic and finished amazing, so i'm not ready to lose it but unlike last year our easiest schedule is 'now' so we need to take the wins we can

I don't see it getting too much better anytime soon. Jamal just isn't what he use to be. He use to demand doubling up on him.....not no more. Igor & Castillo are getting no push at all. Philips is getting no outside pressure and Tucker.....well, we'll see about him. Wilhelm, gotta go. The guy is useless. Smith is nothing special either. Jammer is Jammer (that's actually a good thing) and Cro......WTF?!?!? The guy is lucky if he gets one interception never mind 15.

My boy Cottrell better learn quick how to use these players he has because they are definitely imposters from last years bunch.:icon_huh:

So tell me, what is a different DC gonna do? Is he gonna make Wilhelm a good player, run, jump & cover? Is he gonna make Williams knees miraculously better to the point that he demands 2 players on him? Is he gonna get Igor & Castillo better penatration? With williams the way he is know, the gaurds can concentrate more on either Igor or Luis. I'd rather hold off on the sky is falling until we get at least Cooper back. Do we need to blitz more? Probably. But that is one of the few faults I see right now that is directly contributed to the decision making of Cottrell.

It's obviously the players are not responding to their coaching. And yes the pplayer DO suck right now, but they are not being put in a position to win either.

ALSO, getting OWNED at the end of 3 straight quarters during the opponents 2 minute drill and surrendering TD's on ALL 3 OCCASIONS, that is ABSOLUTELY DUE TO THE ****** SCHEME TURD COTTRELL IS EMPLOYING.

"Ok guiz, les all sit back 20 yard off the ball in the softest zone known to mankind, k? LOLOLOL"

    Baaaaahhh!

Pick your poison, either try and keep them infront of you and hold'em (like we did for the most part against the Panthers) or man up and take the chance on getting burned deep because our linemen can't get a good push. Jamal's knees are gonna be a bigger concern then LT's big toe. We can at least replace LT with Spoles. We don't have anyone that demands the attention the Jamal does when healthy.

IMHO the lack of QB pressure is the single greatest cause for concern. The talent of the front seven is down with J-Mal playing like he's at 50% and with no Roid-Boy to bull rush TEs and RBs. Did everybody see the play right after they were talking about Tucker when he got pushed back about three yard by a TE? Merriman would have mowed the guy over.

Give the guy a break. He chipped a nail after he just got a manicure and on top of that, he got a run in his pantyhose.

So he's going to be cranky today.

Agreed. So what changed? It is not just Merriman being out. It is not just Jamal being rusty.

We are not pressuring the QB, not blitzing the way we did last year. I dont know why Teddy has gone vanilla. Do you?:icon_shrug:

Jamal isn't just "rusty". He's not getting the double team, which is freeing the o-line up to take on 93 and 99 and whoever the other rusher is. I rarely saw us send more than 4, and I don't think we had any sacks (maybe 1, don't recall).

I think Jamal is done, dude. I'll keep praying he bounces back. Not havign Coop in the middle is killing us, and not having Merriman out there allows the O to double SP.

    Scheme sucks man.

He was vanilla last season up until about week 8. Only this time he's worse.

I think all the players eventually told the coaches to **** off and they coached themselves. That's what it will take this year too.

Losing Merriman was huge, but we won 4 games last year without him while he was on his suspension.

Maybe losing Cooper on his suspension was the straw that broke the camels back.

It's worse because we don't have the STUDS out there to make up for the bad scheme.

Exactly. As great as Merriman is, he's not our entire defense.

The D is playing poorly what else can you expect. It will be turned around and will start winning again. I'll start worrying if we start out 0-4, 0-5, we'll know for sure then.

Not crazy about having our two white safeties in there at the same time either.

Ted needs to use different personnel when protecting the end zone.
