If Maclin is there at 16, do we take him?

I know we need an offensive tackle in the worst way and a middle linebacker who can actually tackle, and a safety to line up next to Weddle, but Maclin would relieve return duties of Sproles, he for sure would be the best player available at 16, what say my Bolt brothers?

I figure maybe we can lock up Burnett for the linebacker
draft a OT in the 3rd or maybe a solid free agent
Maclin is just to good to pass up.:icon_tease:

Too many GLARING needs elsewhere to justify that move, IMO.

Gotta shore up one of the primary weakneses with that pick.

This team needs linemen or we are going no where.

    RT - DE - Center - DT ....

If we do not land a RT and DE who can ball - game over.

We got pushed around in the playoffs by the Steelers. We need upgrades.

That's a tough one. I agree with all the others that lineman are a priority. But I am also a believer of Best Player Available (BPA).

I admit I would be tempted, but would probably look elsewhere.

    Good question.

Ran into a LSU fan the other day, asked him about how so many LSU players have flopped in the NFL, especially the ones the Chargers have selected. His response... "you're using them wrong... Buster is not a slot receiver, you have to use his blazing speed to stretch the field and with Hester, he's a fullback."

I was speechless and then I chuckled. Then I responded: "Well you have to stay healthy and be on the field, and with Hester...that's what we're asking of him, too bad he can't beat out Tolbert."

LT has a ton to do with what we do IMO. Phillips and Burnett would solve two of our problems. If we need a RB we may go in the first. My best guess is that we go Maclin if he is there. This draft is RB deep and a gem can be found in the 3rd.

No, no thank you. I think we're pretty set with wide receivers right now.

Let me just start by saying that it is VERY UNLIKELY for Maclin to be there by 16.....I also would like for all of you to look at the big picture. We lost what 6 games last year in the final minute? Our problem was last year that our defense couldnt stop the run to get the ball back and teams were able to just run the clock out. Matt Wilhelm is a ***** and no offense to Stephen Cooper lovers but he isnt much better. I certainly hope we take a ILB if Maualuga is there game over.

To answer the question if Maclin is there, as much as I appreciate you homering your squad there in mizzou. WR just isnt as big of a need as DT, ILB, OT

We just can't get off the field to let our offense work. I'll take the best fat guy on either side of the ball, but defense is more important.

You gotta look beyond this year and we probably can redeploy talent. If Maclin is available at 16 AND you are looking at inferior talents ... take him. This kid is a damn good football player.

Then either offer Chambers to Jacksonville for John Henderson OR Buster Davis to Oakland for Michael Bush.

On a side note, I still have a solid set of expectations of Jacob Hester developing into a Matt Suey type presence for this team.

With regards to Buster Davis, I believe he was a worse pick than Sammy Davis. A 4.4. burner that can't adjust to the deep ball over his shoulder is pointless. He can't get separation because no one believes he can use his speed to beat them deep. I love his ability to run precise routes and not lose speed out of his cuts, but this kid is flawed and injury prone. His average production in college helped mask that he was a workout warrior.

Hester has beat Tolbert out at FB.

Oh and Maclin, no thank you. Far too much of a luxury pick for me. I want to see an OT first and foremost, D line second and if there ain't either of them at 16 gimme one of the LBs eg. Cushing.

Were we to pick Maclin, we're the new Raiders. Them picking McFadden last year was a pure luxury pick with the RBs they had on their roster.

    Why would we?

Though I'll say the same thing about Corner Back.

That is one position we do NOT need. We don't need AJ channeling Matt Millen.

    I would rather get a kicker at 16 than a WR. :icon_rofl:
