...With the looming gloom of at least another season with Norval as the HC, should the Bolts at least line up an actual OC so that Norv can try and concentrate on motivation and preparation? Singletary doesn't seem to want to retain Martz in S.F. if he keeps the HC job, so wouldn't Martz at least fit in with Norv since their offenses both stem from the Gillman/Coryell tree? Faulk had his most productive seasons under Martz and the Ram offense in general has disappeared without Martz.

Another possible plus would be that an OC, with basically the same offense, would be in place in case A.J. dumps Norv in the future. In the meantime, Norv and Martz are very familar with each other and employ the same style of offense.

Let's wait until we find out whether or not we actually are going to have another season with Norv before we start discussing what we might be able to do to cope with it.

And don't feed me AJ's line of B.S. that his job is safe.

An owner or a GM are not going to say anything but that their head coach's job is safe while he's still in charge of coaching their team.

Marty's job was "safe" 2 weeks before he got **** canned

Mike Tice's job was "safe" right before he got **** canned in Minnesota

Lane Kiffen's job was proclaimed "safe" on a weekly basis until Al Davis finally fired him.

I doubt Norv still has a job here next year unless the Chargers make or win the Super Bowl, but if he does then I'll start contemplating what they may or may not be able to do to hopefully succeed despite still having to have him as HC.

The only scenario I see for Norv losing his job is if they lose against the donks, if they win Norv will be back

I highly doubt they let Norv keep his job if they sneak in at 8-8 and get slaughtered by the Colts.

Yeah, that's probably wishful thinking on my part that they'd have some iota of common sense, but, hey, what do I know? :icon_shrug:

The main point, though, is that these statements coming from AJ that his job is "safe" are completely meaningless, as history dictates.

I agree, I thought that as soon as the Chargers where mathematicaly eliminated AJ would "change his tune"

Right now I think the feeling in Chargers park is:

    a) Cotrell was the problem on D, had Rivera been the DC for the whole season that would have been like 2 more wins

    b) Hochuli

    c) a healthy Merriman would be another win or two

    d) the team is still playing hard, so Norv still has control over this team

So if they make the playoffs I think they'll give Norv another year (at this point I can live with that but would rather see someone else)

P.S. as far as Martz, no thanks

I'm not sure there is a connection with either of those coaches.

And, he's a pass first OC

And, he hasn't done shiit since being a head coach

    No on adding Martz.

Norv will call the offensive plays for as long as he is the head coach.

i would rather have Ramsdell, but would be fine with martz

He comes from the same coaching tree as Norv and runs a somewhat similar offense as Norv (but slightly more pass happy). He is also a good OC when it comes to developing QBs and would be another offensive mind to help expand the offense. Plus, with someone else calling the plays, maybe we wont have as many damn delay of game penalties.
Also, having an OC might make Norv a better overall HC since he would get more time to game plan and less time working strictly with the offense

When did the Redskins and Raiders beat Norv's best record with these teams?

How many superbowls did they win?

How much better were they after Norv left?

Answer these questions and I will answer yours.

I also think it might be good to promote Charlie Joiner to OC, hell he learned the system from the master himself. Not only that, but our receivers have stepped it up under his tutelage in just his first year.

    The Jimmy Johnson Coaching Tree

This one took a serious hit last season, with both Butch Davis and Dave Wannstedt fired in midseason. And, of course, Johnson himself is in the studio rather than on the sidelines.

Norv Turner, OAK — Spent six years with John Robinson's Rams before running Johnson's offense in Dallas. Turner worked with Ernie Zampese in Los Angeles and through him picked up Don Coryell's offense. Turner has ties to Nolan, who was his defensive coordinator in Washington.

Mike Martz, STL — Johnson's legacy has come to this: it runs through Turner. Martz worked for Knox, but his ideas about offense really developed under Turner in Washington. He has ties to Lovie Smith, who was his defensive coordinator for three seasons.

The question was rhetorical, I really just wanted to display my superior Chargers knowledge by naming our long forgotten "offensive coordinator".

He's a key component to this offense. He's the one calling the running plays. You know, the draw plays into the middle of line that go for no yards!!

I agree with all. No thanks on Martz! I also think the only way that Norv is gone if the BOLTS lose on sunday night. When they win sunday and beat the Colts then i think he locks himself in for next year. If the BOLTS win both i will be in TENN!!!!! GO BOLTS!!!!!
