Would you give up draft picks for him?

I'm willing to bet he gets tagged.

    He'll be tagged.

Even if he isn't, AJ doesn't do big name free agents.

And even if he did, we have more glaring needs than CB. Jammer is still Jammer, Cason is just amazing for a rookie and he'll only be better next year, and Cromartie will probably rebound next year.

keep dream'in, we've got 3 first rounders to play corner and they're all good, maybe not as good as mambi pambi but all pro-bowl caliber.

Who would you rather have Merriman and Vincent Jackson or Asomugha? Asomugha is going to get bad huge money because someone is going to be willing to over pay to get him. His contract will be larger than any current Chargers by a long shot. So, if you sign him there won't be enough money around to keep let's say both Merriman and VJ.

btw- did you see VJ beat Asomugha like a rented mule on Thursday?

I'd take Nnamdi's proven talent over Cro's unproven talent 7 days a week and 3 times on Sunday.

That being said, as pointed out above, I think we'd be saying good bye to Merriman and/or Vincent Jackson as well.

I don't think he's worth costing us that much, but who knows? (Who knows? as in who knows if he would, I'm not undecided on whether or not it'd be worth it because it wouldn't be if signing him did mean we couldn't retain VJ or Merriman.)

    in that case I agree

    Cro < Nnamdi
    but
    Cro + Merriman > Nnamdi

CB isn't even one of our biggest needs, he'd be luxury that really we can't afford if we want to keep certain players. Now if you're looking for big name free agents that would make an impact and we could use, what about Haynesworth? Just imagine Haynesworth and Jamal in the middle of our line.

The only thing the chargers would have to be a 4-3 defense. What LB would have to sit on the bench for this to happen?

I agree with Sydalish and that would be the chant all right. "You Can't run". :icon_eek:

We could run some type of hybrid 3-4 4-3.

Sometimes have either Shaun or Shawn with their hand down and the other as a LB.

    Or use something like:

    Haynesworth- Jamal - Castillo
    Phillips - Cooper - Dobbins? - Merriman

That would be brutal for teams trying to run. Merriman would be on Castillo's side since he's a better run defender and is able to take on doubles better. Phillips would be on Haynesworth's side and would get either singled most of the time which he can excel at.

Man just thinking about a front 7 that good. :icon_eek:

:icon_eek:I could not agree more. :icon_eek:

Just think of this as well as a wishful scenario.

Getting Haynesworth and Asomugha in FA.

Our Defense would be almost unstoppable. We would be chanting " You can't run" and "you can't pass". :icon_eek:

Wow - VJ beat the pants off of the incredible Asamugha, or however you spell it.

If we WERE to spend any real money in FA, which I seriously doubt, we need to address our lack of quality beef first.

If we got Haynesworth (.01% of happening), we should draft a stud LB in the 1st, and then move to a 4-3 with....

    Shawne-Haynesworth-Jamal-Shaun
    Maualuga (Animal/spikes)-Cooper-Dobbins (waters)

That would give us our best front 7 in a LONG time, maybe even ever!

Isn't Maualuga a better fit at ILB for a 3-4?

And I'd rather mix the 3-4 and 4-3 than just play one straight up but whatever works.

i'd rather go after a FA safety. Cro will get another shot next year as i'm willing to give him a 'sophomore jinx' pass.

But our safety position NEEDS immediate attention. And it has to be through free agency. As a rookie the position of safety is too complicated to be effective at immediately. WE can get DLinemen/LB's through the draft but we need to spend our $$$ on a FA safety. Or two.
