Just as we can speculate about Marty's little conspiracy to get himself fired & retain a big payday, who wanted Marty fired is also up for speculation, UT articles or not. Media stories are not infallible. The only source that I would believe is the horse's mouth, & I really don't think that anyone on this thread is in a position to glean the truth from Dean or AJ.

AJ said consistently that he & Marty were worlds apart on how to win a championship. He would have no, or at least very limited, conversation with him. So why would he want to keep him? Stellar 2006 record or not, Marty wasn't proceeding to AJ's liking. Seems to me that the fairly obvious conclusion is that Dean sided with AJ & finally axed Marty.

AJ picked Norv & Cottrell to win a championship "his" way. IMO, now he can personally reap the rewards of their sub-par coaching. Arrogance & stubbornness is creating just as dysfunctional an environment as we had before. He got his yes men - now he can support them or terminate the experiment.

I'm not advocating firing AJ - he's pulled off some great player acquisitions. I am saying that he needs to nut up, take responsibility for a poor decision, & stop the bleeding.

And that's being just as realistic as benching Rivers. :icon_eek:

You missed it as well. Hey - for your information, AJ suggested to keep Marty for the sake of continuity after the playoffs. What ensued spoke for itself (or at least the brighter ones in class get it).

All AJ had to do was sit back and watch Marty commit hari-kari (the part most are missing) and AJ would get his wish and that was to get rid of Marty even though he recommended to retain him.

Now I know reading that last line just blew mental circuit breakers and that is because you do not know the politics of "doing the dance".

When Marty pushed for his brother, all bets were off.

This **** is too simple and you guys who assume that you have some sort of I gotcha moment just do not peddle mentally fast enough to know what is up quite frankly.

AJ got his wish (in the end) while covering his ***. Beautifully executed plan and the way I would have done it as well.

We're all going to be married to Norv for a while.

Norv signed a 4 year contract. Does anyone here seriously believe that Norv will be fired after one year and Spanos will pay the remaining 3 years of Norv's contract up front ?

I realize the fans are angry and would want Norv to be fired after 1 year, but its not going to happen.

    Texas Two stepper..

So now AJ WANTED to get rid of Marty.

Well you finally flop to the truth.

You continue to express hypocrisy with your comments about the 'I gotcha' mentality.

Did you not post this little tirade?
That was not posted by you? In this post you do exactly what it is you accuse me of, even go to the depths of saying that I am less of a fan than you are because I cant make the games. Well at least you finally have the balls to express your stupidity now.

You play the hypocrite very poorly, what you love to accuse the other of you do constantly. So sorry you don't like us 'non-elite' posters daring to say what we think in your forum. But that is a butt hurt you will have to get over.

Excellent post. I hope the truth of this doesn't have the elitist pot head calling you an 'non-real fan'

Your references to stoner dude is because there is nothing on the market which alleviates the nausea associated with Chrones associated diseases and shows your continual propensity to show lack of class and personally attacking posters is bullshiit.

If you had cancer and I dissed you for smoking weed and you think it is funny, then you have crossed the line. It is not funny nor something to be joked about as you continually like to do and as a matter of fact is another point of irritation. I am not looking forward to having a majority of my intestinal tract removed at some point in time.

If I want to criticize Rivers or the AJ despite how I feel about them and it is torquing your cookies, grow the fuc up.

Well once again I guess we should all bow down to Lord HornBlower for not only recognizing AJ's plan but probably suggesting it to him as well.

Certainly we mental deficients could not have ever comprehended such a plan. Since you did, Trumpie, it must be so. :icon_tease:

The only problem that I see is, if AJ is so freakin' smart, why hire these two? OK, maybe I could even understand Norv, but Cottrell? Sorry, but he wanted boot-lickers that he hoped might be able to win with this amount of talent.

No kool-aid for me. This is the Shacque du AJ - looks great on the outside, but the foundation is pretty weak.

I know you get it and that is not a very comforting thought  but the way I see the primates putting the puzzle together so freaking slowly is painful to read and watch.

When I think about the slow blinkers society or those tools in the shed and that edge........man oh man.

This is where Dean comes into play because now you are asking a question which needs the owners approval.

After Marty was fired you have two options.

    1. Continuity
    2. Completely new system and forfeit the year

This takes Deans input. He is the owner.

From there, you know the story. The hiring was suppose to provide stability through familiarity with a 3-4 (Cottrell) and Norv (who installed our offense for Cam). It made sense at the time (hind sight is 20-20 and all that) if the players did their part but the players have played down to their coaching it appears.

All the good coaches had already been poached and anyone other than Norv would mean a new offensive system/calls and for a team that was poised for the Super Bowl, that did not make sense so we were sort of stuck with Norv as the best viable option to get the job done.

Also, there is that stadium deal lurking so the continuity option seemed the best managerial route.

Well, who was out there which best fits the coaching profiles since we did field 11 pro-bowlers last year and it should be a cinche for whomever ? The decision seemed sound and we would rely on our players to carry the coaches.

Again hindsight and all that notwithstanding

Not much. Just hanging around waiting for this team to gel under the new coaching staff.

By week 8 all of our patience should be rewarded.

As you say, hindsight is 20-20.

I still believe that we could have done better that the duo we selected. Norv - to some degree, maybe the verdict is still out on him. He doesn't have much of a track record as HC, but he does have a fair amount of cred as an OC.

But Cottrell? Puh-leeze!! That's just AJ hiring a sack-licker, pure & simple. If nothing else changes in the near future, I hope that he gets canned & Rivera can take over as DC. We know that he can coach, even if he isn't overly familiar with the 3-4. I've got a feeling he can pick that up a lot quicker than Cottrell can learn to be a coach of any standing.

I'm finished ranting for now. Here's hoping for a strong performance & a thorough whuppin' of the Mules!!

I am sure Dean knows he got worked and is also subservient to the fact that AJ's secret weapon is Buddy Nix and does not want to piss off the Nix.

    Responding to Trumpet_Man,
I figured out a long time ago that arguing with Trumpet_man is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after awhile you realize the pig likes it.

    Werd. Troof. Def.

I'm hoping they grab a clue earlier than that though. This is only Week 5.
