Been hearing all the noise on the morning news shows about the talks between city and team. What's the story? Is Vegas giving odds on it? Are we going to lose our chargers to those sh!tbirds in LA? Anyone got any news on this topic? Even rumors might be helpful.

City of San Diego will propose a December 15 election for Chargers stadium. The team seems to believe that earliest an election can occur is April 2016 due to the need to fully clear any plan that would be on a ballot

Why? They have a point. When was the last time you saw something like this NOT litigated against in San Diego?

Are we pretending that there are hurdles to get over that involve more than the Mayor saying he wants it? The Mayor thinks the environmental impact can be rushed aside, but based on what I read earlier this year about the soil pollutant levels at the site I doubt that is true. I would be very happy if it were.

But in short it has been 14 years that the team has been trying to get a new stadium, and now the city might be earnest in wanting it. But that might be a bit too little too late.

If the new stadium isn't downtown, I can't imagine it getting done in San Diego. The Mission Valley site is a dead end.

The hoteliers (i.e. major contributors to Falkner's mayoral campaign) want a contiguous convention center, they don't want the stadium/event venue downtown which would expand the convention space but would be non-contiguous. So they (along with MTS and others who have a political stake) are promoting the idea that it's impossible. The reality is, downtown is a much better spot for long-term success and would provide far more marketability than Mission Valley. Mission Valley is a band-aid at best, a dead-end at worst. I should never say never, and if they made it work in MV, fine by me but it's a waste of time to continue pursuing MV IMO.

They were doing mock-ups of stadium sites around the county. Chula Vista still has a chance.
