How do we have any money left to sign veterans?

I'm betting we'll see few surprise cuts between July and September.

Hey Ant, special teams, experienced backup, locker room "good guy" and all at the right price I'm betting.

Barring injury, I'm betting he makes the final 53.

Excellent move. He's not the answer at FB, but he is a great special teams guy, a good locker room presence, a solid backup and he's familiar with the scheme.

I Think we had @ 6 million before the Henderson signing. Also I have a fearful assumption that they are going to cut Jammer. Past his prime and getting 4 mil this year. I hope I'm wrong only because I really like him maybe we can restructure his contract for 1 or 2 more years so we take less of a cap hit

I figured as much a couple months ago. After rewatching games like I have its undeniable Jammer is a shell of himself, our struggling pass rush is a bit to blame, but overall he just can't keep up with the 25-29 year old athletes anymore.

It would be a heartless cut, but I've said before loyalty is overrated when you're trying to win, hanging on one year too long (like we did with LT) costs teams every year.

What a waste. Yes he's a great guy, locker room prescence blah blah blah. This team is full of sentimental BS when it comes to players they reached for/traded up for. The guy is taking up a roster spot for me. He brings sweet FA.

He's a beast on special teams. 2010 should remind you of how important that can be.

    I agree100%!

I would rather have had #35 back. Way to go AJ let's just keep old players that we can sign to a one year deal.
This way AJ will have someone to walk away with at the end of our 3rd season with NO PLAYOFF'S! :(

he definitely fits on special teams, and that's always important to have someone who can do that. But as far as fullback or running back I have no idea where he fits in

dont mind the signing just because even though it hadnt been reported i will bet it was for dirt cheap... if he starts playing a role on anything more then special teams though i hate this signing :p

If he's signed as a backup and a special teamer then fine, good move. However, if this means the team are now no lonegr looking for a #2 RB and intend for this to be Hester's role, then this sucks.

"The reports of Jammer's death have been greatly exaggerated."

    Samuel Langhorne Clemens

p.s. I'd say "Good job, AJ" re. the Hester signing, were that sort of thing allowed here.

So was Osgood for memory, but the word came that players need to be able to play another position to fully earn a roster spot ............ why is Hester any different ?

That's not what happened with Osgood. The team did not want him to play receiver. Osgood was not happy being just a special teams guy. He wanted a shot at receiver, something the Chargers (rightfully) did not thing he was capable of.
Every team has a certain number of backups that are on the team more for their special teams contributions than anything else. These guys fill important roles. I don't think replacing Hester with a slightly superior backup FB who might not be as good on special teams would be an improvement.

Beast ???.............he's a very good ST'er, but lets not get carried away with the use of the word "Beast" shall we.

And for what its worth, record in '10 when we had was universally acclaimed as the worst ST's in the history of football = 8-8

last year with a new coach and scheme = 9-7.

I wouldnt say thats a stunning improvement or an indication that we have ANY "beasts" on ST's.

Actually, Tolbert was our best special teams tackler last year.

Tolbert might be the best tackler, but Hester is the captain of special teams for a reason. He plays on every ST unit.
