The San Diego Chargers announced Wednesday that they have signed linebackerJarret Johnson to a four-year contract.
Johnson isn’t a dynamic pass rusher, but he’s long been one of the better edge-setting, run-defending outside linebackers in the game. Johnson can play several linebacker positions.
If the Chargers are seeking a sack specialist, however, they will need to turn to April’s draft. Johnson turns 31 this summer and has never recorded more than six sacks in a season.
He only has four sacks over the past two years, a 32-game stretch.

    Very nice!
the teams in our division are all good at running the ball so this is a great pick up. I'm thinking Poe would be a great addition in the first, to solidify the D go bots go!

Just like AJ to build the team to only win the division.

That's where it starts, having a solid D is key. have to get back into the playoffs first and foremost

Yeah building the team to stop the run is smart not only inside the division but most of the "elite" AFC teams love running. Ravens, Texans & Steelers so on.. Of course we still need a pass rusher and a safety (and if we don't bring Garay back we'll need a DT) but this isn't a bad start. I like Johnson's physicality!

Johnson will give alot of guys like Barnes and Phillips a break on obvious rushing downs. That is a very valuable thing

yeah, I'd rather they make the playoff as a wild card, or better yet, have 18 byes and play only the superbowl

Well played Bolts, very good pickup.

I'd love to see us get Wimbley too if he becomes available, then we'd have a solid pass rush with decent depth.

"Dominating dictating defense" will take a very good pick in the draft. Our current front 7 won't get it done.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the Raiders cut two players to be able to afford to keep Wimbley, since he wouldn't take a pay cut.

I'm more excited about what Johnson said about Pags and how he'll be lining up all over the place. It sounds like they're going to a more aggressive style 3-4 like they play in the AFCN. I can't wait!!!!!!!!

I cant really complain about any of the FA pickups so far. Shaping up to be one of the best we have had. Granted this year is one of the best the NFL has had thanks to the CBA interfering with players contracts and FA eligability.

Well usually at this point we'd have signed nobody, and a few weeks from now we'd sign Derek Smith.

I love line em up smash mouth football, even though the NFL is shying away from the true essence of the game. Bringing in Johnson should improve the run game and the little hint he gave of Pags defense is something to look forward to. I just love me some defensive football.

We haven't had as many holes in the past as we had this year, so they had the benefit of sitting on their hands since they didn't have more than 1 or 2 starters to replace. This year we have 6-7

I think it would be more like JJ sliding inside, Spikes to the bench and Branes into rush. I do believe he said as much when he mentioned he can play all 4 LBer spots and has, not to mention J Pags got an ear full from bro.

Johnson said he has played all four positions,
You also dropped into coverage some with the Ravens, and I don’t believe you were asked to rush the passer
a lot in Baltimore, but do you feel you can do that as well?
You wouldn’t call me a pass-rush guru. I’m a capable pass rusher, but I think my versatility is my strength. I played Sam linebacker for Baltimore and Sam has to do a lot of jobs. Lots of dropping in coverage, different types of coverages, rushing from different sides, line up pretty much at every position. That’s why I’m excited about playing for John is he has a similar defense and I’m going to be able to line up in different spots and be able to be another weapon that he’s already got with Shaun Phillips[IMG] and all the other guys they already have on that defense. I just want to be there to add another weapon.
