Jim Irsay is freaking out Colts fans

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 5, 2011, 9:07 AM EDT

Before an Indy radio report about Peyton Manning’s statusset off a Sunday night flurry of follow ups, Colts owner Jim Irsay was already sending signs via Twitter things were not well.
Irsay’s tweets are often song lyrics. When they aren’t lyrics, he’s often just messing around. But Nate Dunlevy at the excellent Colts blog 18to88.com compiled some of Irsay’s tweets since Friday and the result is compelling.
Here are a few that stuck out, although you could check thewhole list here.
    1. “There was the Rams-K Warner Sup year./ There was Patriot 2001-Brady Sup.year.— Every year. is interesting n unpredictable in NFL!!!!” Irsay wrote.
Irsay translator: Both of those years began with quarterback injuries.
    2. “Stampedblue and Jon Bauges/random or silly tweets,they r not..ur not hearing what I’m saying..riddle n codes r done4a reason,but it’s there.”
Irsay translator: He’s telling some Colts bloggers that his series of downer tweets aren’t just a goof. (He’s also saying that mean Mr. Polian doesn’t like too much information out there.)
    3. Florio mentioned this one last night but worth repeating: “Excuse me, sir, I think this will be our finest hour.”
Calling upon Apollo 13 motivation about when things look darkest.
    4. A new one from after midnight:
“I’m trying2prepare 12th Man as best I can,BUCK UP..if I’ve told u twice- The only thing the pity pot produces is a red ring around ur ***!” Irsay wrote.
That one is self explanatory. Pity pots now available at all major Indianapolis convenience stores and select locations of Steak ‘n’ Shake.

I love how the Colts owner has a few drinks a tweets. Looks like Mr. Manning may need more recovery time.

Red herring. An owner would not tweet to the masses that their franchise QB is not going to play until he had to. Why would he let the other teams know in advance...

This guy is a kook that is addicted to twittering crazy things. I think after a few drinks he just loses it. I think that Polian tries to control what he is putting out there. We shall see if it is all BS or for real.

Colts will address Manning’s status for opener by noon

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 5, 2011, 9:26 AM EDT

The Colts are well known for burying injury information, but they know they can’t just ignore all the questions aboutPeyton Manning.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Colts plan to address Manning’s status for the season opener by noon ET Monday. Schefter echoed Chris Mortensen’s report from Sunday night that there are no plans for Manning to undergo more surgery. (Schefter left off the “as of now.”)
This isn’t the only news the Colts will break Monday. Owner Jim Irsay said vice Chairman Bill Polian would have a statement about new replay assistant Jim Tressel’s status.
Florio reported on air Saturday that the NFL would review Tressel’s status with the team. Tressel’s hire was made without approval by the league, which goes against protocol.
The last time we saw Polian at a press conference, he was helping to announce Manning’s monster contract extension. This one won’t have the same celebratory vibe. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...l-address-mannings-status-for-opener-by-noon/

Drunk tweeting not smart. Dump COOP.

I think we will hear in a few hours that Peyton Manning will not be available for this weeks game.

Colts say Manning is doubtful for Sunday

Posted by Mike Florio on September 5, 2011, 11:43 AM EDT

Before Sunday night, we had assumed that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning would have been listed on the league-mandated Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday injury report as being a limited participant in practice. Then, he would have been listed as questionable for Sunday. Then, we all would have learned at some point on Sunday morning whether Manning or Kerry Collins would get the start.
The Colts have taken a dramatically different course, announcing on Monday that Manning won’t practice this week, and that he likely will be listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game.
“During the last week, the rate of improvement in Peyton’s rehabilitation process slowed,” the Colts said in a statement release moments ago. “Over the weekend Peyton experienced soreness in his back. It was originally thought to be a normal reaction to his rehabilitation regimen. When the soreness persisted, the Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton’s case from the outset. That process continues.
“As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice. His participation therefore, in Sunday’s game versus Houston will likely be doubtful. We will update his playing status as required by NFL policy as the week goes on.”
The Colts describe the situation as “a complicated neurological recovery, the end date of which is unpredictable,” and they commit to providing “concrete medical facts” when available and relevant.
The statement reflects a willingness by Manning, who has been throwing the federal HIPAA privacy law around, to allow the information to be disclosed publicly. Few if any pro athletes have taken refuge in HIPAA; the fact that Manning has apparently reversed course suggests that the time has come for candor regarding his situation.
Then again, we apparently still haven’t gotten the full story. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen correctly predicted on SportsCenter before the statement was released that the word “doubtful” would appear in the statement from the Colts. Mort also predicted that the statement would indicate that the strength in Manning’s triceps muscle had plateaued. The statement was silent on that point. Presumably, such silence didn’t apply to whatever Mort had been told by the Colts or by Manning’s camp. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/

If the Colts lose Manning, Colts are out of the playoffs for a while.

He carried that team to the playoffs last few years

Cooper was always leaning into the line, listening to Peyton's audibles, and calling out the play to the defense. Dude was right on

MY reasoning comes from the fact that a lot of the Cooper defenders talk about how well he leads our D vs. the Manning-led Colts. Less Manning, less need for Cooper.

I can't speak for the rest.

The rumor out of Indy is that Manning had a "secret" procedure and is gone for the season....... don't tell the Colts fans, or they might not buy any tickets.

    Mum's the word, OK? ;)
