Bhawoh Jue, who left Green Bay via free agency for San Diego this off-season, is battling for a starting safety spot with the Chargers in training camp.

Chargers.com reported that Jue is in the midst of a stiff competition with Jerry Wilson and Clinton Hart for the starting free safety spot. Although the fifth-year pro is still adjusting to defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' system, he's excited about the possibility of becoming a starter.

"That's the main reason why I came here," Jue told chargers.com. "I was told that I'd get a chance to start and make a big contribution to this football team. It's not going to be easy. Clinton is an up and coming player, and Jerry has played in this system before. He's been in the league twice as long as I have, and he knows what he's doing back there."

The Packers drafted him to play cornerback but moved him to safety early in his career. "I felt comfortable in Green Bay, I just never felt like I got situated," Jue said. "I was moving around and doing a lot of different things, so it was hard to focus on one thing and make that my forte. It's definitely been a learning process to get accustomed to the system here, but I do feel a little more focused." In Jue's first game action in a Chargers uniform, he'll get to face his former teammates. The Bolts open their preseason next Thursday in Green Bay.

"It'll be cool to go back, but I'm a Charger now," Jue said. "I've got a lot of friends there, and it's where I got my start in this league. More than worrying about who we're playing, I've got to worry about how I perform." With all the adjustments in his life, Jue is having no difficulty getting used to the climate differences between Wisconsin and Southern California.

"In December when I'm still wearing shorts and tank tops, I'll be calling those guys in Green Bay chuckling on the phone," Jue said. Jue is pleased with his new home in San Diego. He just hopes to now firmly establish himself in the Bolts' secondary. And stay put for awhile.
